While certainly not an outright awful program, Harts of the West should appeal to only the most devoted western fans, those who adore actors named Bridges, and really bored housewives.

This likable but short-lived series stars Beau Bridges as Dave Hart, a Chicago salesman who, after a heart attack and subsequent midlife crisis, moves with his reluctant family to the remote West. The Harts soon get an unpleasant surprise when they discover that the beautiful ranch they thought they'd bought is actually a ramshackle mess. The always excellent Lloyd Bridges plays the lone ranch hand, who's nearly as much of a wreck as the place itself. The complete series is collected here; with quirky characters and a calm, thoughtful pace, HARTS OF THE WEST didn't last long on television, but it's nevertheless an endearing, funny, sweet look at a displaced family in transition.
