Five Favourite Films with Jaime Winstone

The actress on the films that inspired her.

Jaime Winstone

If you flick through the celebrity pages of most British newspapers -- particularly the free sheets -- you'll likely recognise Jaime Winstone. As Ray Winstone's daughter she's part of that select set of star children -- think Peaches and Pixie, Lily and Alfie, Kelly and Jack -- with whom the tabloid press seem to have a keen fascination; especially when it comes to photographing them on nights out at hip London clubs. At 23 years old, it's no surprise Winstone enjoys having a good time of an evening, but it's her daytime activities which are becoming increasingly more interesting.

As an actress, she made her debut only 5 years ago, alongside Ashley Walters in powerful Brit drama Bullet Boy, and she's been quietly building a solid body of work ever since. She played as part of the ensemble cast of Noel Clarke's Kidulthood, tried her hand at horror with Donkey Punch and Dead Set, and shared the screen with David Suchet in Poirot.

Her five favourite films reveal her passions, her upbringing and the steps that brought her into the industry, and her latest project, Boogie Woogie, released later in the year, promises to continue her quest to be taken seriously as an actress, not just a celebrity. Co-starring Gillian Anderson, Heather Graham and Danny Huston, Winstone plays a manipulative young British artist, and recently attended the film's premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival, where RT sat down with her.

Good list. Pulp Fiction is one of those that I know is in the back of everyone's mind when they make these lists but it rarely pops up. TBL and Lawrence, however... La Haine looks interesting.

I think Seth Rogen put "Total Recall" on his five faves. And Bigelow put "The Terminator" on hers.

I like that she put a movie like Total Recall on her list. People need to stop being afraid of putting fun movies on their list. It gets old seeing only classics on these things.

La haine is definitely one of my favorites... everybody should see this film... Director Mathieu Kassovitz was 27 years old when he made that movie... it's like his own Reservoir dogs... a masterpiece, no doubt..! Vincent Cassel is amazing in it... this is pure and brilliant cinema...

Peaches and pixie are bob geldof's kids and Lily and Alfie are Keith Allen's kids. And if you dont know who keith then you do know Lily surely.

JB Books - they are children of stars here in England (Peaches and Pixie being Bob Geldofs children I believe). But they are basically spoon fed, obnoxious people who talk a lot but don't actually do anything. I'm not sure why RT has lumped Jamie in with this lot though. Yes she has a famous dad in Ray Winston, but she seems like a serious actress who is making a good go of it. Fair play to her. Haven't seen a lot of her works but I thought Dead Set was great!

A very good list too.

JB Books - They're celebrity children in the UK who're famous for being celebrity children. Pixies and Peaches are two of Bob Geldof's daughters, Lily and Alfie the children of the actor Keith Allen, though Lily Allen's now made her own career as a musician.
