Ari careens between hanging out with his friends, bickering with his family, and several heterosexual and homosexual encounters, always trying to come to terms with where he fits in. Reviews for Head On
Although Head On has a certain rude power, it's definitely not a date flick.
Kinetic, at times shocking, and -- as the title suggests -- constantly in your face, this is a film that may be narrow in scope but is awfully big in heart.
Its missteps and excesses aside, Head On is a promising feature film debut for Kokkinos.
In a way, the film is a kissing cousin to the 1960s kitchen sink dramas of the British cinema and the working-class angst of German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
Head On crashes rights into your gay expectations and drags them down into the gutter. Powerful forces are at work here. You won’t go home laughing. No way.
One of this year's most sensual tragic spectacles -- a tour-de-force on a thousand different levels, with no easy happy endings in sight.
Anyone of any generation who has ever felt at odds with his or her environment can identify with the characters in Head On.
Kokkinos ... goes at it all with a relentless, take-no-prisoners panache and pace; this film moves.
A film more easily admired than enjoyed, but there is much to admire in this bold, unsettling film.
Its frank portrayal of gay life is a refreshing foil to the watered-down examples of queer cinema we've seen of late.
There are some powerful moments in this rambling day-in-the-life odyssey.
It seems to parade its anger instead of explaining it or putting it in a dramatic context. It's a rant, not a drama.
Ari comes off as little more than a self-centered, bigoted layabout, contemptuous of anyone who works for a living and a trial to his family.
