Movie Info

Also known as Hell Town, Born to the West was one of the final entries in Paramount's "Zane Grey" series. A remake of the 1926 Jack Holt silent of the same name, the film stars John Wayne as an irresponsible cowpoke named Ruud, who is constantly being bailed out of trouble by his sensible trail-boss cousin Fillmore (Johnny Mack Brown). The limit comes when Ruud loses Fillmore's cattle money to crooked gambler Hammond (Monte Blue). For a while, it looks as though a showdown between the two cousins is the next logical step, but blood's much thicker than money. Thanks to an error made by the Paramount publicity department in 1937, it has long been assumed that Alan Ladd played a small role in Born to the West; he didn't, despite the claims of the many public-domain companies currently distributing the film.more
