crystalwhiteeyes writes: on Apr 04 2008 06:18 AM I loved the first one, and this looks very promising! It feels like a much bigger atmosphere than the last one. I also like how they still have the Mein Herz Brennt song by Rammstein playing. Can't wait! (Reply to this) |

Crenshaw writes: on Apr 04 2008 07:03 AM Awesome! The only downside is that is doesn't sound like David Hyde Pierce is voicing Abe, which is a damn shame. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Apr 04 2008 07:04 AM Cool, it's like Pan's Labyrinth Gone Wild. All the creatures in Pan's Labyrinth got really pissed off and decided to attack Hellboy. (Reply to this) |

lightningpilot2 writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:04 AM In reply to this comment (#1668905) It's sad that they dropped David Hyde Pierce. He was excellent in the first film. Doug Jones does a lot of costume work (Abe Sapien, Silver Surfer), and every time I see a quote from him in an interview, he's arguing to do the character voice too. This is probably the only place where Del Toro can take a cue from Lucas, you cast David Prowse for the costume work and James Earl Jones for the voice. (Reply to this) |

AgentSmith writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:04 AM This looks visually good, and there's one part that made me think that we'll see a growing in characters' focus. I consider that after "El Laberinto del Fauno" (or "Pan's Labirinth" as you guys know this movie) Del Toro has grown more as director. Let's see what he brings us soon. (Reply to this) |

TombstoneLawDog writes: on Apr 04 2008 11:11 AM I like this franchise, and I especially like Ron Perlman's portrayal of Hellboy, but I admit I don't get the fanatacism that a lot of people display towards this. It makes me worry about the makers of these movies getting a little too serious about their material. ..As long as Perlman is there with the 'Nah, let's just F#cking KILL something' then we should be alright... Darkness My Old Friend writes: on Apr 04 2008 12:49 PM I'm excited for this movie but I almost thought the earlier trailer was better. Also is anyone else irritated by the fact that it seems people have a contractual obligation to never say the name Guillermo Del Toro without prefacing it with the words "Visionary Director"? Is that absolutely called for? I mean, come on. (Reply to this) |

akatsuki writes: on Apr 04 2008 07:56 PM The first was one of the most enjoyable movie that year and now, studios are killing one another now. This new Trailer packs a punch! Easily getting people very excited. my 10 bucks is with this...this year is burning a huge hole in my wallet (Reply to this) |

knowingtoast85 writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:23 PM This'll be fun, but keep in mind del Toro makes these popcorn movies pretty much only as a means of getting money to make his more personal, less commercial ones. No complaint from me, but this is not going to be "The Devil's Backbone" or anything. (Reply to this) |

manofthemovie16 writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:26 PM Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is a golden chance for Toro to pull off what Sam Raimi got to do for Spider-Man. Make two stellar action-packed comic book movies and make it worth your while. Him being so successful and skilled, it looks like this scenario will be a go-go. This sequel should make more than the first one because the first one came out in April of 2004 while this one comes out in mid-June this year. This looks like a thrilling and dark monster movie with comic book elements of good and evil thrown in with lots of special effects. Not to mention well-developed and well-dressed characters who get to have a fun script. A ticket to this movie would have to be golden! (Reply to this) |

tomwaitsjr writes: on Apr 05 2008 12:13 PM In reply to this comment (#1670188) Del Toro certainly knows his audience well. Pretty much the one unifying element in all of his films are the supernatural. I've enjoyed all of his films. Devil's Backbone is certainly not meant for a 13 year old or younger crowd. ClearlyBlind2568 writes: on Apr 05 2008 11:32 PM basically, this one is gonna suck as much as the first one. people give this douche-cag director too much credit beacuse of pan's labirnth. That one his career highlight and now it's all down hill, and i dont understand why people are making so much of a big deal out of hellboy 2. watch the box office return, i guarantee under $30 million, a failure for a superhero adaptation. Del Toro is a hack and you won't ever hear about him again after pan's labirinth. (Reply to this) |

scoob writes: on Apr 05 2008 11:33 PM Only Guillermo del Toro could fit this many monsters into a flick and still make a good movie. (Reply to this) |

John Z. Delorean writes: on Apr 06 2008 07:24 AM Del Toro is a hack?! Men Lie, Women Lie , Numbers don't so let's go. Cronos stands at 88% tomatometer, went commercial did Mimic 54% and covered the budget with the box office alone, 92% for The Devil's Backbone, Blade 2 56% and 80 mil, Hellboy 79% 60 mil budget covered in rentals alone, Pan's 96% and doubled up in the US alone, Hellboy 2'll do 80 mil easy the Hobbits will smash records and a Neil Gaiman scripted Doctor Strange would be crazy. Yeah, this guy sucks. (Reply to this) |

Tollens writes: on Apr 06 2008 08:44 AM Things I want to say about this thread: #1: You have to love that the one person who has said Hellboy 1 sucked titled himself (herself) "Clearly Blind", because you would have to be to not enjoy the awesome visuals of these movies. #2 Even though I thought 'Golden Army' was one of the weakest Hellboy titles, I still think the movie will rock. #3: I like David Hyde Pierce, but I really disliked him voicing Abe Sapien and thought he was totally wrong for the voice over work. I'm glad he's out. #4: For all you Hellboy fans out there 'Johann' (one of my favorite characters) will be in this movie!!! That alone is reason celebration. (Reply to this) |

I Am Remote writes: on Apr 06 2008 08:04 PM Any Hellboy fans skeptical of these new trailers? The books are great because of the sparse creepiness, the stark atmosphere... and this looks like a cgi catastrophe. The first Hellboy was a decent adaptation (a distant 2nd in my book, to Nolan's Begins), but was alien in significant portions to the qualities that make Mignola's books and art so great. I'm aware Mignola helped write the script on this new one, but visually... it looks like a departure from the source material. I'll see it... but expectations are low. (Reply to this) |

jokerboy1991 writes: on Apr 06 2008 10:07 PM In reply to this comment (#1673551) Actually DEL TORO tries to use as little as CGI as possible. Most of the creatures are make up and machines. Doug jones does like a bunch of the creatures. (Reply to this) |

Hellmistress writes: on Apr 07 2008 12:11 AM No, David Hyde Pierce is NOT in this film - never has been. Doug Jones is voicing Abe Sapien. And incidentally, Doug is not 'just' a creature actor. He is a fine actor in his own right. Only three times in an over-twenty-year career has he been dubbed; once in Pan's Labyrinth (which is fine - although his Spanish was perfect, he couldn't hear the nuances that Pablo Adan could), and twice as a marketing ploy by studios - Hellboy, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. NOT because he 'needed dubbing' like David Prowse did. Both times it was so the studios could bring in an 'A' lister, thinking it would put bums on seats - which it didn't. So, he is perfectly entitled to want the voice back for a character he worked so hard to create. (Reply to this) |

adu writes: on Apr 07 2008 04:31 AM Ok the guy who said this will make under $30 million clearly doesnt know movies. My friend, this will easily cross that amount, but its revenues will take a hit because The Dark Knight releases a week after this one. Nonetheless, I feel it will do decent business, and the movie will be great with Del Toro at the helm, he is a fantastic director. I have a strong feeling that he will announced as the director for The Hobbit very soon, and will bring a different flavor to the movie. Though I would prefer P.J. to be the director, he could make the movie to similar to LOTR, in terms of the feel and all. So if he just as much as guides Del Toro in the right direction, I think we will get a superb movie out of both of them. Here's to hope! (Reply to this) |

trgdr777 writes: on Apr 07 2008 10:11 AM The movie looks good, but I have some of the same problems with the visuals in this film that I did with those in the first. 1. Using CGI as little as possible isn't that important. Using CGI as WELL as you can is. The CGI in the trailer doesn't blend into a lot of the scenes from what I could tell. 2. In the first movie and in this one I can't stop thinking "look at all the people in makeup". I'm in no way saying that Hellboy should be CGI, but a lot of the makeup work lacks a bit of depth. You don't really get the feeling that he has red skin. It's more of "well he's covered in red paint". There's no illusion of translucency, so it appears very flat. 3. I was never a big comic fan, so I didn't read any of the Hellboy books. I have seen a lot of the original artwork though, and it seems like lots of the design elements and atmosphere are lacking a bit. It just doesn't come across as a convincing world to me, but that doesn't mean I won't see it. I enjoyed the first one, and this one should be entertaining too. (Reply to this) |
