Trailer Bulletin: Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Plus: New images for the gallery.
On July 11, Guillermo del Toro brings Hellboy back to a theater near you, with Hellboy II: The Golden Army -- and he's just unveiled a new trailer to get you excited about it.
The sequel to 2004's Hellboy reunites stars Ron Perlman, Doug Jones, Selma Blair, and Jeffrey Tambor, pitting their team of supernatural good guys against an army of very not-so-good guys (with the fate of the world in the balance, natch). Here, check out the synopsis:
After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy.

Adding a second trailer to the one we've already seen isn't all Universal's done -- there's also a stack of new Hellboy II stills to feast your eyes on. Click on either of the above images, or click here, to check 'em out!

crystalwhiteeyes writes: on Apr 04 2008 06:18 AM I loved the first one, and this looks very promising! It feels like a much bigger atmosphere than the last one. I also like how they still have the Mein Herz Brennt song by Rammstein playing. Can't wait! (Reply to this) |

lightningpilot2 writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:04 AM In reply to this comment (#1668905) It's sad that they dropped David Hyde Pierce. He was excellent in the first film. Doug Jones does a lot of costume work (Abe Sapien, Silver Surfer), and every time I see a quote from him in an interview, he's arguing to do the character voice too. This is probably the only place where Del Toro can take a cue from Lucas, you cast David Prowse for the costume work and James Earl Jones for the voice. (Reply to this) |

AgentSmith writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:04 AM This looks visually good, and there's one part that made me think that we'll see a growing in characters' focus. I consider that after "El Laberinto del Fauno" (or "Pan's Labirinth" as you guys know this movie) Del Toro has grown more as director. Let's see what he brings us soon. (Reply to this) |

TombstoneLawDog writes: on Apr 04 2008 11:11 AM I like this franchise, and I especially like Ron Perlman's portrayal of Hellboy, but I admit I don't get the fanatacism that a lot of people display towards this. It makes me worry about the makers of these movies getting a little too serious about their material. ..As long as Perlman is there with the 'Nah, let's just F#cking KILL something' then we should be alright... Darkness My Old Friend writes: on Apr 04 2008 12:49 PM I'm excited for this movie but I almost thought the earlier trailer was better. Also is anyone else irritated by the fact that it seems people have a contractual obligation to never say the name Guillermo Del Toro without prefacing it with the words "Visionary Director"? Is that absolutely called for? I mean, come on. (Reply to this) |

knowingtoast85 writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:23 PM This'll be fun, but keep in mind del Toro makes these popcorn movies pretty much only as a means of getting money to make his more personal, less commercial ones. No complaint from me, but this is not going to be "The Devil's Backbone" or anything. (Reply to this) |

manofthemovie16 writes: on Apr 04 2008 08:26 PM Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is a golden chance for Toro to pull off what Sam Raimi got to do for Spider-Man. Make two stellar action-packed comic book movies and make it worth your while. Him being so successful and skilled, it looks like this scenario will be a go-go. This sequel should make more than the first one because the first one came out in April of 2004 while this one comes out in mid-June this year. This looks like a thrilling and dark monster movie with comic book elements of good and evil thrown in with lots of special effects. Not to mention well-developed and well-dressed characters who get to have a fun script. A ticket to this movie would have to be golden! (Reply to this) |
