2. Neo and Trinity As seen in: The Matrix (1999), The Matrix Reloaded (2003), The Matrix Revolutions (2003) While they don't possess any real "super" powers, per se, outside of the virtual world of the Matrix, Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) comprise a formidable duo when they're plugged in. Somewhere in the midst of discovering the true nature of his "whoa"-ness, gallivanting around his digital playground, and saving humanity from a future of slavery, "The One" somehow finds the time to fall in love with his leather-clad partner. For her part, Trinity is no slouch either, running up walls and battling agents with reckless abandon, but only by combining their efforts and making a few big sacrifices for each other is this power couple able to overcome the vast army of killer robots they face. Sometimes, "one" plus three equals a kickass two. |

1. Batman and Catwoman As seen in: Batman Returns (1992) A compelling facet about the Batman universe is its characters' ability to represent polar extremes without reducing themselves to cardboard cutouts. Naturally, Batman is order, while Joker entertains chaos, and DC has shown just enough intricacy within these two to make their fight relevant for decades. Now, Catwoman isn't as simple. It's apparent in Batman Returns that Selina Kyle can't be labeled good or bad, but instead read as a perpetual victim whose idea of fighting back is at odds with Batman's. Catwoman needs saving from herself and her vigilantism is questionable. That probably explains the attraction between Bruce Wayne and Selina: in each other, they see themselves. And it also probably explains why their tango is so compelling to us: when your line of work involves hiding away from the world, genuine human connection is a pretty rare thing. |

As for honorable mentions, we had to respectfully
decline the presence of too-cutsey Rogue and Iceman, too-obscure The Strobe and
Ms. Indestructible, too-odd Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, and Hancock and the
Mystery Superheroine We Can't Reveal Because The Movie's Not Even a Week Old.

on Jul 09 2008 10:52 PM Ehh Batman and Catwoman, I was so dissapointed with Batman Returns it focused to much on the villians. I hated Daredevil and the Elektra hook up that ruiened the movie, it became DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Dare Devil & Elektra (thats why the director's cut is better, it cut out alot of Elektra and focused more on DD). I hated F4, those to were so hollow as Mr. Fantastic and Mrs. Fantastic. I say make a list of top superheros and villains in movies! 1-Batman (BALE) 2-Wolverine 3-Spiderman (yes the 3rd one was bad) 4-Iron Man 5-Superman (hollow character) Villans (im sure Heath ledger will be #1 in my book next friday) 1-Cillian Murphy (scarecrow) 2-Jack Nicholson (joker) 3-Alfred Molina (Doc Oc) 4-Jeff Bridges (Obodiah Stane) 5-Gene Hackman (Lex Luthor) (Reply to this) |

on Jul 09 2008 11:24 PM I'd like to point out that there was no Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. Tommy Oliver(Jason David Frank), the Green Ranger, lost his powers and had already been transformed into the White Ranger by the time the movie was released. He then went on to play the Red Ranger in two later series incarnations, Power Rangers: Turbo(Including the big screen version Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie) and Power Rangers: Zeo. And I saw both movies opening day. I used to be a HUGE fan. And to really bring it home, I had Power Ranger pogs. Haha! I'd also like to point out that Power Rangers is geared towards kids who are too young to watch MTV. Trust me, we werent watching because there was nothing else to watch. It was THE SHOW to watch. I mean, its STILL on. It has a new cast, new costumes, new powers, new zords every year. I don't watch it anymore, I'm 25, but this article makes it seem as if Power Rangers was some embarassing flash in the pan, when in fact, it's one of the longest running and most successful kids shows ever. Sure, its cheesy, but so are most kids shows. How about a little respect? Amy Jo Johnson, the Pink Ranger..........what a babe. And yes, I know my nerd is showing. :) (Reply to this) |

on Jul 10 2008 08:28 AM When you make any "Best" list that includes the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, it's a good indicator that the field isn't large enough to justify a "Best" list. In the extreme, I can envision a category like "Best super-intelligent baby movies" containing both "Baby Genius" movies and nothing else, but would it be worth anything? (Reply to this) |
