Barker's Hellraiser Remake Adds Writers, Directors
What's your pleasure, sir?

If the 1987 original and its seven -- yes seven -- sequels weren't enough for you, good news: Clive Barker and Dimension Films are bringing Hellraiser back to the big screen.

Variety reports that Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have been hired to write and direct a Hellraiser remake, to be produced by Barker. The article mentions Rob Zombie's Halloween reboot as a catalyst for the new film, which Maury and Bustillo have previously described as less of a true remake than a reimagining featuring a new story and a new Pinhead.

Pinhead, if you were living under a rock (or, sigh, weren't yet born) in the '80s, is the series' iconic villain, so named for the dozens of pins jutting out of his hairless skull. Variety summarizes the franchise's first installment thusly:

The original film revolved around a couple who move into an old house inhabited by the man's eviscerated half-brother, who escaped hellish torture from the Cenobites but returned shorn of his skin. The Cenobites, who are triggered by a Rubik's Cube-like puzzle device that unlocks the gates of hell, would like another meeting with the man.

The best part of all this? We're one franchise closer to the studios completely exhausting their options for '80s remakes. Once someone gets around to announcing the inevitable Ghoulies reboot, we should be all set.

Personally, I don't think Hellraiser needs a remake. The original was and still is an awesome movie.

Hollywood, isn't it about time you do a remake of...

Titanic, Lord of the Rings, E.T., Forrest Gump, The Sixth Sense, King Kong, Jaws, etc? It's been quite a while since I've seen those films.

Since there are absolutely no up-and-coming young and creative writers in this country, we shouldn't invest in those foolish young generations. And let's ignore the fact that the rest of the world is making original and quality films. As long as we have Tom Cruise, we will be on top.

In case you missed it, a remake of King Kong was in theaters some time ago, directed by none other than Peter Jackson.

*Sigh* .... I guess there is some potential for making Hellraiser cooler. I just hope that Barker knows what he's doing and has a good vision for this remake. Odds are that it will suck.

Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong in 2005 was already two years ago! Why isn't Hollywood talking about another remake?

Yes, because more Direct to DVD sequals are SOOO much better than a remake.

Atleast Clive Barker will be involved... Unlike the DTD sequals...

I'm game for this. I love Barkers stories and I was definately creeped out by the original movie when I was a kid. Hope they do it justice. Wish they would make a movie about his Imajica Books or continue Night Breed.

what would be the point in remaking Hellraiser an efx upgrade? the fx are not bad in that film as is and it's still relevent in modern cinema. Not to mention the various retarded sequels where Pin Head is almost like an Anti hero in the original you were not happy when the cenobites showed up and their means of tourture quite alarming but if someone see's a buck what can you say Zombie ruined Halloween whats one more idiot heading for the trough mean..not much just more fodder for the Tomato meter:)

Can anyone name any good remakes?

Can't wait for someone to announce remaking something like the Evil Dead... then there will be a call to arms!

NeOx1ty i was just discussing this with someone the other day and they could only think of one or two movies that actually had a good take, one that equalled or came close to that of the original

That's been ''on the shelf'' for four years now.

Which won't be happening... Since I'm still alive.

Great, another needless remake of a great film. I guess someone decided they could milk a few more dollars out of a rebooting of the franchise. Here's hoping, with Barker involved, the movie will be more than a forgettable remake with "improved" CGI gore and an idiotic script.
