TORONTO: Zhang Ziyi, Yuen Woo-Ping's Latest "Banquet" Not Very Fulfilling
Zhang Ziyi and action director Yuen Woo-Ping last worked together in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," a movie which helped change audience perception that martial arts movies can be artful and open the door for similar movies such as "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers." Their latest collaboration, "The Banquet," looks just as good as "Crouching Tiger," but the film is undermined by a story element that's over-used in recent wuxia epics from China. More on that later.

Box Office Wrapup: Invincible Scores Another Win at #1
Moviegoers had football on their minds for the second straight weekend as Disney's true-life NFL tale "Invincible" remained atop the North American box office over the long Labor Day holiday weekend finishing off another summer movie season. New releases "Crank" and "The Wicker Man" opened in second and third, respectively, while the critically acclaimed films "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The Illusionist" both scored strong per-theater averages in moderate release. The holiday frame marked the first weekend in six long months where no new film debuted with at least $15M. Hollywood was happy to close the books on a summer movie season that was slightly better than than last year's.

Yimou Zhang, the man who brought you "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers," has another epic adventure in the works. The new one is called "Curse of the Golden Flower," and Sony's planning to release it on December 22nd. Check out the all-new trailer.

Oh No They Didn't: Spielberg and Yimou Want in on "Journey To the West"
A day after we got word of a possible Peter Jackson-Jet Li-Jackie Chan collaboration, it seems that Steven Spielberg -- also rumored to have been interested in adapting the "Journey to the West" Chinese epic -- might indeed give the Jet-Jackie pic a run for its money. And he's got a big name in Chinese cinema in his posse.

Comic Con 2006: Teaser for Frank Miller's "300" Looks Amazing
Even if you are not familiar with Frank Miller's graphic novel "300," but is a fan of the movie "Sin City," you ought to be excited about the forthcoming adaptation of that novel. I know I was after watching the awesome teaser clip. If the finished movie is anything like what's promised in this teaser, it's going to be an amazing piece of work.

According to the official Hong Kong website for "Fearless", the latest offering from Jet Li, directed by Ronny Yu and choregraphed by Yuen Wo Ping, has scored a big box office take in it's first weekend of release.

Zhang Ziyi Brings Down the House
Zhang Ziyi, the star of "House of Flying Daggers," has worked hard in a wide variety of roles, she told IGN FilmForce. In "The House of Flying Daggers," she plays a blind martial arts expert, and said that the complexity of the character was a challenge for her as an actress.
