Eli Roth, Michael Dougherty On Board for Heroes: Origins
Not your average TV spinoff?
by Jeff Giles | September 24, 2007
Discuss Article
Just in time for the second-season kickoff of NBC's Heroes comes word of more talent being added to the show's spinoff, Heroes: Origins.

Origins, which will take over in Heroes' timeslot after it finishes its second season, looks to serve as a sort of farm system for the main show's cast -- but the behind-the-scenes talent lining up for the spinoff are far from minor-league material. Kevin Smith has already been confirmed to write and direct the first episode; now, from The Hollywood Reporter, comes word that Superman Returns co-writer Michael Dougherty and Hostel creator Eli Roth are also on board.

Dougherty and Roth will both write episodes for Heroes: Origins, although Roth will also direct his script. Heroes' second season begins tonight.

Hopefully we'll get a 1-18 type episode, not the 19-23 slapdash type. But I don't know. Please don't be lazy, writers.

I have hope.
And hey how many producers would even see the error of their ways and consider improving the way the show is presented for their audiences sake (and money).

I still liked the idea better as a mid-season filler, unless they're going to do a better job this time of spacing out the episodes. That huge gap last year killed all momentum, which is good for the DVD sales but bad for those of us watching weekly.

Maybe Roth will have Hayden Panettiere hung upside down naked and tortured with a Sickle

I hope Kevin Smith is faster at writing scripts for TV than he is at writing scripts for comics.....

Arcadefire: they're stand-alone origin stories, so Sylar (and the rest of the main cast, presumably) won't be in them.

I'm hoping Joss Whedon does one.

Just when I thought I couldn't think any less of Eli Roth, I watched the behind the scenes feature on the Hostel DVD.

Not only are his movies garbage, but I can't stand the guy, either. Heroes Roth = bad idea.

We already had an "origins". It was called "Season 1".

Heroes was pretty great tonight.

Good news that Smith is writing an episode. Hopefully he'll direct and hopefully it won't take him 5 years to do it.

Yeah, I was very pleased with tonight's episode. The writers took a big, summer-long breath and started slow. Good for them. Can't wait for more.
