Golden Compass Author Doesn't Care for Narnia, Lord of the Rings
Summary
It won't reach theaters until December 7, but The Golden Compass -- which adapts the first installment in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy -- already has some people up in arms, and the author doesn't seem to mind one bit. Back to Article

kja.8 writes: on Dec 07 2007 10:20 PM Yeah, it sure is a no brainer... Sorry, about that. But really, your falicies are endless. Every problem which ever faced mankind through out history can be traced from religion? Only you are capable of REASON, LOGIC, and CRITICAL THINKING, while Christians only have myth and superstition? Why don't you take a try to look deeper and stop going for the easy answers. Quit thinking you have all the answers. You don't. You never will. And as for this gem, "This new film Golden Compass is a symptom of the times. A symptom of a coming age were reason out weighs mythology and superstition" Damn, if this piece of **** film is the messiah of a "new age where reason out weighs mythology and superstition" than I think mankind is really ****ed. kja.8 writes: on Dec 08 2007 05:32 PM yeah, I know what symptom means dumbass. I was just rephrasing it to fit my purpose. Even if my spelling isn't entirely up to par, what I said still stands. Btw, I didn't comment on any of your spelling mistakes (and yes you had some). If pointing out spelling errors and word misuses are the extent of your superiour logic, reason and critical thinking, then you should really reconsider bragging about it... (Reply to this) |

The Loki Myth writes: on Dec 09 2007 02:33 PM yea yea, you quite right. My spelling sux too. But you had to "rephrase" my argument in order to attack it and try to make it silly. I guess I'm not mad, I use that old tactic myself quite often. (Reply to this) |

megrow1x writes: on Dec 11 2007 07:57 PM Ok So I don't care what your opinion is... But seriously why can't christians speak up if everyone else can... I totally understand that everyone thinks all christians are loud and in your face... but a majority of us aren't going to damn you to hell for not agreeing with us... I came on here to learn a little more about the difference between the stories and just found a bunch of people bitching at each other for giving opinions... I know what I believe and if you believe something different thats fine go ahead and talk about it... people are different get over it (Reply to this) |

lilbuffy333 writes: on Dec 15 2007 02:28 PM First: I agree completely with what you said about it not being anyone's responsibility to defend God; he can defend himself. Second: The issue behind all the ideas of Christianity being "insulting" is not so much about the message. No one has a problem with Peace On Earth, Good Will Toward Men, because it does apply to everyone. It is not the overall messages that offend people, it is the assumption that they are christian, seeing as whatever the figure (4.5 billion?) people are not. Now if they are standing in a church, or even in front of a nativity scene, no one can blame you for saying Merry Christmas. Basically, it comes down to how much it means to you to avoid offending others. If you don't care at all, then go for it. But if you can even a little, it does not take that much to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. (Reply to this) |

C.s. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien are fantastic authors, look how much happier they r than Pullman because they have God in their lives. God bless (Reply to this) |

The Church is only targeted because of its size, but its number is diminishing because of Atheism God bless (Reply to this) |

The Loki Myth writes: on Dec 19 2007 11:01 PM The christian %u201Cburn in hell%u201D thing is a stereotype? Where you living at? Sounds like a nice place. Is it called make believe land? I have not meet a christian yet that doesn't think I'm going to burn in hell for being an Atheist. In fact, just by being a christian, your faith demands that you believe that I'm going to burn in hell. And Muslims, LOL dude you should take a look inside the Koran. Talk about some scary *****, Its all the worst stuff from the old testament on steroids! Christians are scary, but they pale next to Muslims. %u201CThe church's numbers are diminishing because of atheism? LOL Maybe its because little boys keep getting raped in church. Maybe its the money that is taken in is not used for charity until after paying for shiny new things in the Vatican or the income of the individual churches priests, ministers, clergymen, whatever their designation, they get full medical, homes, cars, in the case of ministers that can marry and have children, full medical and collage tuition for their children, then, if there is any left, maybe run a soup kitchen, send some fricking rice to fricking Africa. And meanwhile, ordinary Joe Blow who is living from paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to send his own kid to collage, is footing the bill. Why the church's numbers are diminishing? Because people are waking up to the fact that the church's have become parasites and become Atheist by default. Some may go so far as to say that religion is a blight on civilized society. A malady, a mental illness. I feel this way every time I see a man on the side of the road with a sign that says THE END IS NEAR. REPENT! Every time I see charlatans on t.v. yelling about the apocalypse and the rapture. How we need to send money so that they can rebuild the third temple of Solomon in Jerusalem so that the end of the world and the return of Jesus can happen. How sick is that? Man! Do you even understand a little bit how crazy this appears to me? It appears mentally deranged! So you may think I have no right to criticize (make fun of you) but I have every right to do so. I object to your ideas and your methods and I have every right to voice my opinion as long as we have free speech in this country. By criticizing you and your ilk, I feel that I am doing my part in fighting dangerous superstitious beliefs that are a detriment to a secular and peaceful civilization. (Reply to this) |
