There's a lot of back story to The Golden Compass:
based on the first His Dark Materials book by Philip Pullman, the plot takes
place in an alternate world where humans are accompanied by animal spirits
called daemon. In the first clip, a polar bear named Iorek (voiced by
Ian
McKellan) explains that a bear's armor is tantamount to a human's daemon.
In the second clip, Iorek engages in an electrifying outdoor duel with another armored bear, a fine example of Golden Compass's crisp CGI, human performance, and swooping camerawork.
You can check out both clips here, along with previous trailers and media. The Golden Compass -- starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and Dakota Blue Richards -- hits theaters December 7.

Floor Man writes: on Nov 19 2007 03:52 PM Dang. Dang, dang, dang. The more footage I see from this movie, the more disappointed I get. Those clips were, well...overly underwhelming...? *sigh* :( I was hoping that Dakota Blue Richards was going to be a "Dakota Fanning", as it were, and be able to act with a maturity level unusually higher (and natural) than most girls her age. Apparently, my hope is in vain. The dialog made me cringe a tiny bit, unfortunately, as well. Shoot. I was looking forward to it, too.... Oh, well. I'll see it anyway, despite my prediction that it'll be rather rotten on the tomatometer. (Reply to this) |

ZiGyStRdUsT writes: on Nov 20 2007 10:32 AM hahaha you are a dick ap90033 (no offense). I take the whole killing god thing more like a protest to the gravity releigon is having in society and politics, I don't think anyone, not even the author means for people to become satanic or whatever. Yes I know he is an atheist and not a satanist, but the book basically takes the side of the "rebel angel" so I guess you could derrive satanism from that. Besides in my opinion too much god is what's fracking the world up right now, people need to chill about this whole heaven thing, jeezes.....lol (Reply to this) |

mpr13 writes: on Nov 25 2007 04:25 PM In reply to this comment (#1291420) If you had read the books, you would know that God is allready long gone and out of the picture. It's more about an angel who tried to fill Gods shoes and ended up becoming tyranical and the angles who fight from behind the scenes to bring the world(s) back to what they should be. Choose not to see the movie, but don't talk crap when you obviously didn't read the books and instead are taking the fanatical rumor mongering from your church to heart instead of seeking the truth on your own. As to the movie, I'm holding reserved hopes for it. The cast has a chance to overcome the young actress' shortcomings, I hope they do it. I really enjoyed the books, hopefully I'll enjoy the flick. Subtle_knife_bearer83 writes: on Nov 28 2007 05:38 AM The books were very Anti religious which was fine by me but probably offended a good many people. From what i have heard the whole church angle has been removed from the movie which in my opinion is a mistake because it will destroy the substance of the whole story. I cant see how they will deal with Dust without the church I will reserve my judgement but i think i am going to be dissapointed. I also hope if they make the 2nd and 3rd book they stick to the story as much as possible because the 3rd book is by far the darkest and in essense it ends as a very sad love story which i doubt people will go to the movies to see I swear if they screw this up they deserve a swift kick in the nuts :P (Reply to this) |
