Critics Consensus: Hit & Run Is Hit And Miss

The Apparition has an interesting premise (a supernational entity that attacks if people believe in it) but from the trailer it seems like the typical slasher film trash. The Poesession despite having a more typical horror premise seems much more promising when it comes out next week in terms of horror films. 20% is my guess.

Hit and Run and Premium Rush seem like pretty bland films, decent almost end of summer season films but nothing spectacular. Wouldn't be surprised if one of last weekend's releases get's the Number 1 spot.

I haven't seen any commercials for Hit and Run. Are Bell and Dax un-marketable??

I'll have to check out "Asphyx". I'm already fairly sure it's a better movie.

Comedy Central has been playing a lot of ads for "Hit and Run", but they look so very bad. Only one joke, about an old man's "endowment".

oooohhhh The Asphyx, that 1973 movie about a guy able to bottle-up the receiving spirit of a recently deceased person rendering the person immortal; its directed by Peter Newbbrook and stars Robert Powell. Boring but intriguing.

I'm still lukewarm on "Premium Rush". Sure, Gordon-Levitt and Shannon are two of the hottest actors nowadays, but, honestly, David Koepp is very hit and miss for me, especially with films he directs himself. Remember "Secret Window", where Johnny Depp gives up about halfway through and decides to make a comedy instead? And this is still the guy who wrote "Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls", lest we forget. "Nagging logical questions" and "does not adhere to common sense are phrases that follow this guy around like eager production assistants. ("Trigger Effect"?) Still, Michael Shannon is an actor I'd love to watch pitch a bad guy bitch (ZOD!!!)

A lotta stupid this week. I'm pretty certain I got a bigger laugh seeing Dax's film "Brother's Justice" at 0% (it was bad, but not that bad) than I'll have watching his new film. And the premise for "Apparition" is weak. Really weak. I assume it's some kind of religious allusion. For rookie horror, I think "Revenant" looks much more interesting. But even the limited releases don't really excite me this week. "Samsara" looks good, not just because I like "Baraka", but because the director also worked on "Koyaanisqatsi". These films aren't for everyone, but they're beautiful. I hope I'm not the only person who simply can't watch a film called "Hermano" unless it stars Will Arnett.

The Secret Window has a lot of Sentimental value in my home, First date movie. I'll defiantly have to check out Premium Rush now. I'm shocked how similar the story seems now. "YOU STOLE MY NOVEL!" Nuh UH! "You STOLE my Package!" Nu UH! Here is to Levitt being Shannon the whole time after all! WHAT A TWIST!

THAT'S the one with Johnny Depp as the writer with an evil doppelganger who wants credit for the writer's horror stories; Stephen King is RIPPING-OFF himself because THE DARK HALF (adapted to film starring Timothy Hutton) is also about a writer's evil-doppelganger looking for recognition. I completely agree about David Koepp, particularly when it comes to THE TRIGGER EFFECT and SECRET WINDOW. There wasn't much of a mystery there in the latter; after Turturro bitched about Depp "keeping" his hat, I knew it was all in Depp's frickin' head. And as far as INDY 4 is concerned, did you see Harry S. Plinkett's review of it? He truly ripped Koepp a new asshole at the end of Part 1.

That being said, I actually liked STIR OF ECHOES, Koepp's directorial debut based on the Richard Matheson novel and starring Kevin Bacon in what I think is truly one of his few great performances. In fact, I thought the movie was even creepier than slightly superior THE SIXTH SENSE, which was released the exact same week. I even liked Koepp's directors commentary for some reason. However, you're right: no writer is more hit-and-miss than he is.

Oh, sorry for the confusion. I was joking because the film sorta vanished. I didn't see it, wasn't really looking for it, but I happened to notice that it was so strangely missing from theaters. Apparently, the film was pulled back to a few hundred screens at last minute, even though it's still listed as "wide".

Oh Apparition. Didn't you learn from Safe House and The Cabin in the woods? By giving it a prerelease, at least you can leave with a 40s score if not ACTUAL ACCLAIM (then again,TCiTW isn't a horror movie but a movie that criticizes them harshly albeit deservedly)

"The Apparition,? from what I have seen in the trailers, has the appearance of a good looking horror film and that sad to say is all it has going for it. This looks like a rather generic and clich�d horror film that we see coming out every year, nothing new, nothing fresh( such as "The Innkeeper"), and nothing that audience haven't seen before that will scare up any money at the box-office. My guess would have to be a very generous 22%.
