An Entirely "Hostel" Trilogy?
by Scott Weinberg | November 27, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
I know that "Hostel: Part 2" isn't even finished yet, but according to recent reports Eli Roth will most likely be returning to Prague to helm a "Hostel: Part 3," but probably not till after he's finished with Dimension's adaptation of Stephen King's "Cell."

From Variety: "Roth is clearly thrilled at auds' recent taste for torture. Roth, an NYU grad with an encyclopedic knowledge of his craft, points to the greats of American horror from the 1970s, like "Jaws," "The Exorcist" and "The Shining," and says "I felt American horror had gone soft. I wanted to amp it up.

"Hostel III" is all but signed as well, to possibly follow Roth's next shoot, Stephen King's "The Cell," although "Hostel II's" release date will affect timing, Roth says."

Maybe torture is the "renewed" thing in horror these days.

However, I'd venture that nothing replaces a good story(Alien, Jaws). Roth clearly hasn't learned that.

Roth has done nothing with american horror. All he does is make gory films that aren't actually as bad as they hype themselves up to be. Whoop-dee-freakin-doo, it's not like he's treading new ground.

Neat! Next on the list of things that need to be done: a See No Evil Trilogy. This time using a CGI created Andre the Giant as the bad guy.

Is this the way horrors are going, write a shit-house script and fill it with gore and tastless crap? Come on.
Roth seems to have a mega-hyped name but hasn't shown us why?
I like voilence and gore but it has to have a purpose or it's not horror, it just SHIT!
Maybe he should go watch a Neil Marshall fim, the Descent or try to work out why American Werewolf in London or Jaws was so good.

Most Stephen King movies turn out crap anyway.

I thought Hostel was terrible. After all the hype it got I figured it'd be at the very least decent but it ended up being a laughable mess not worth the 3 bucks I paid to rent it. I'll be sure to skip Hostel 2, 3 and any others they make.

HOSTEL was an over hyped piece of trash. But with the publics intelligence dwindling daily it some how rose to the ranks of a cinematic masterpiece. It was already mentioned but its worth repeating, Neil Marshall's film has been the only "classic" horror film released in the past ten years.

Am I the only person alive that feels like defending Roth? Yeah, his movies are stupid, bloody fun, but that's the point. Roth himself has stated that he's only out to make gory flicks, and he's done that well. And gratefuldawg, I don't remember anybody calling Hostel a cinematic masterpiece. At least Roth has the balls to admit he's ripping off other horror movies; Marshall, being a proper English director, wouldn't dare cop to that. Werewolves on stilts? Alien creatures living in the dark? Oh yeah, like that's never been done before.

I would venture to say there's been a number of classic horror films in the last 10 years. My favorite being Brad Anderson's much overlooked Session 9.
