Boring, nonsensical horror flick.
| Original Score: 2/5
Incredibly dreary horror opus.
| Original Score: 1/5
Lisa and the Devil is simply too audacious to be dismissed out of hand. ... But the U.S. cut, The House of Exorcism, is mostly a tragedy.
| Original Score: 2.5/4
The Bava art on full display, voluptuous and oneiric
Contains some of Bava's most lush cinematography.
Who loves ya, Beelzebub? Why, Kojak... er, Telly Savalas, of course! The lollypop licking Lucifer shadows lovely Lisa throughout this lesser-known, more unusual of Italian giallo master Mario Bava's oeuvres
It might take a few viewings before the full beauty (not to mention the plot) makes itself clear, but Lisa and the Devil rewards those repeated viewings richly.
Lisa and the Devil is the real deal, a masterfully poetic journey into darkness and dislocation that is long overdue in finding the audience it so desperately deserves.
| Original Score: 4/4
The film seems to b a deliberate attempt on Bava's part to craft an art-house movie in horror film drag.
