House - Season Three (2006)

I started watching "House MD" the summer after Season One finished. At the time I wasn't watching much on FOX, if anything, and had never heard of it. Then one day I was flipping through the channels and stopped when I saw Robert Sean Leonard on the screen. RSL is my first celeb crush from about 12 years ago, so yeah, I was gonna stop to check out why he was on TV. Turns out it was a rerun of "House MD," and they had another episode lined up after. That episode was the Emmy award winning "Three Stories," episode 21, and I was hooked big time. Soon after I went out and bought the Season One box set, deciding that this was a series I would enjoy having in my collection just based on two episodes. I was disappointed. I'd describe "House MD" as being a combination of "ER" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." The episodic medical mystery of the week is very much like "CSI" with doctors instead of investigators trying to solve a puzzle. There's also some fancy shots of the inner workings of body functions and disease when theories are explained, like on "CSI." There is also the eccentric who thinks differently from everyone else and able to think outside of the box. Unlike the good natured, geeky Grissom of "CSI," Dr. Gregory House is deliberately patterned after Sherlock Holmes (drug addiction, one best friend, bad social skills, plays an instrument) and is written as a sarcastic asshole. Despite how unsavory he can be, the show is about him and we understand him and it endears us to him. You can't help loving House. "House" is currently one of my favorite shows on TV right now, and probably the most consistant in terms of quality. "Desperate Housewives" on some occasions gets a bit silly and has pacing problems. I have a love/hate relationship with "LOST." Everytime I feel like I'm ready to drop that show because it drives me nuts when it gets boring, and then the creators/writers pull out some revelation that keeps me on board. So I'm very grateful that I have something like "House" where I can just enjoy and not feel critical about.
