Joe Leonard’s artfully shot and acted How I Got Lost is the story of two friends set adrift after 9/11. Andrew and Jake are best friends who could not be less alike. Andrew, a reckless young banker (Aaron Stanford Tadpole/X-Men: The Last Stand) spends his time chain smoking and boozing it up, seemingly giving little consideration to his life past the next deal or drink. The cleaner living Jake (Jacob Fishel "Cold Case”/”Without a Trace”), a frustrated writer who now covers losing teams for the sports section, is still in love with his mercurial ex girlfriend (Nicole Vicius Half Nelson/Itty Bitty Titty Committee). One night Andrew bullies Jake into a cab headed out of the city and, with $200 and Jake’s shoes as payment, convinces the cabbie to start them on their unplanned road trip. Eventually broken down in the middle of nowhere, the truth comes out about the real motivation for the trip... On the road and in small town Ohio, Andrew and Jake discover that sometimes you have to get lost to figure out where you’re going.
The film was developed through the IFP Directors Lab for Emerging Filmmakers with Scott Macaulay, and financed with a jump start from the
prestigious Richard Vague Production Fund, a $75,000 grant awarded to NYU alum to make their first feature film. Guitar phenom Kaki King created the score.
How I Got Lost was shot on the Red One camera.
