Critic Review - MovieCrypt.com

Beautifully shot, well acted, and completely unfocused to the point of, well, what was the point? ... don't be fooled.

blace_07, you are just the first of the collection of unbearably stupid comments which will be written here by those people who clearly don't have a life and like bashing critics who aren't part of herd mentality.

And you are one of many who follow a reactionary contrarianism that holds that any deviation from popular opinion is automatically valid.

No. That's what retards like you are doing. Funny how people bash negative critics reviews even BEFORE THEY WATCH THE MOVIE. Stupid. People like the Stunner think logically. People like you think with their dicks.

this is exactly how I felt after seeing this film. well shot and acted, the 'action' scenes are incredibly tense and well done, but the whole thing was incredibly pointless. the narrative was forced and inconsequential. will probably win a tons of oscars though.

Anyone who really says it was "pointless" really lacks any serious abbility to think critically, or follow films that don't telegraph their intentions outright.

@tony 18- You know you really acting like a jerk fool or maybe a *******. You are telling they lack any serious ability to think critically, then why dont you tell to everyone what is the point of this movie.

You'd have to be a fairly inadequate individual to not know that the purpose of this film was to portray to the viewer what it's like to actually be one of these soldiers.

I feel sorry for the people who couldn't grasp such a simple concept. A+ movie.

Your comments seem knee jerk and overly defensive. But in response: validating a mindless win/fail opinion only serves to promote such idiotic response. To have a systematic reaction to such comments ('you are one of many to talk nonsense simply because the reviewer does not conform with popular opinion') is convinient but none the less accurate so maybe rather than attack the legitimate response focus all that articulate energy on the numb skull that started such idiocy.

A completely unrealistic portrayal, riddled with technical errors. A mish-mash of unrelated vignettes. Sorry to sound sexist but this is what happens when a woman directs a war movie?!

What does that have to do with anything?

Cameron's loved by the Academy and she can create excellent action scenes, but when people say "It was tense," they seem to forget that this is about a Bomb Disarming Unit set in Iraq during the Iraq War. It's tense b/c this kind of stuff is happening right now overseas.

GOD FORBID someone didn't think this movie won't stand the test of time as the defenitive movie to represent the entire conflict in the Middle-East even though its still ongoing. I appreciate it for its portrayal for it's respect towards our armed forces (including a few personal friends of mine). An Oscar is a statue that voices a group's opinion. The Academy is not the God of cinema as you so built them up in your mind.

I completely agree with this review. This movie was overly serious and tried so strongly to make a point that it didn't make one at all. I think the biggest misstep in the movie is a complete lack of humor. I highly suggest seeing it but if you want to watch a real portrayal of the Iraq War watch Generation Kill.

Ok, seriously this film is filled with inaccurate depictions of what happens in Iraq...whore houses off the FOB, excessive drinking in the barracks (CHU), a Commanding Officer who just doesn't care about a Soldier dying, and an EOD guy grabbing a .50 cal sniper rifle because half of a Special Force team is killed?? This is a "good" movie? It will win Oscars because of dumbass Americans who are to scared to serve their country, but have the right to run their mouths about what they think is the truth! I don't blame the Director as much as I blame the idiot who wrote the script...obviously, just because your brother served in Iraq doesn't make you a ****ing expert.

This movie will win everything on Academy award night. "unfocused"? The whole Iraq war is unfocused which means Bigelow has nailed it.

No. That's a lazy rationalization. The affect of this scattered storyline doesnt convey any meaning, any insight about the war. Its just a bunch of scenes with moments of suspense that are phoney & contrived put together with no real story. Its silly to say that The Hurt Locker is good because it doesnt have a message.

Kevin your a genius. You go through intense movie SPOILER Dangerous intense situations. You get people who want to get home and survive. Wife kids family safety freedom are all important to them.
This guy wanted to be in life threatening situatations. He got home to his wife and kid. He valued risk and adventure over those things. War is a drug. It is what is. Sorry if you don't get it. Kevin your a genius every one else is a fool.

Honestly, I don't see what the buzz is all about with this movie. Oh, I know, it was a war movie directed by a woman... That does not make this a great movie...

I saw this movie last summer expecting a realistic, high intensity war movie somewhat like Blackhawk Down. I admit, the scenes when he is defusing the bomb were intense, but they were just so outrageous. The realism of this film was similar to that of a Rambo movie.

There is no way that somebody would act like that in a war situation... it just doesn't happen. Leaving the safety of your platoon and running with 3 guys into the enemy's area... trying to defuse bombs on a guy in the middle of the street with no cover. And these are just 2 examples of a list of many... Gimme a break.

I just couldn't get past this aspect of the film, and cannot give it a great review for that reason.

That's not really not true, AG. A lot of guys go ape **** in combat situations. I've never heard of a bomb tech doing it, but it is a movie.

At least somebody gave it a negative review. The movie was going fine, with a couple of unrealistic "I don't follow the rules" situations, (THEY TRAIN VIGOROUSLY TO FOLLOW ORDERS AND RULES) until it reached the scene of the night bomb. It was a suicide bomb said the dude, "NO!!! WHAT IF IT WAS REMOTE DETONATED!!!! I BASE THIS ON ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! BUT LETS GO RUN AROUND AT NIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ENEMIES TERRITORY WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE AND SOLVE THE MURDERS OURSELVES!!!"

You are one of the few that got it right...Epic win on your part.
If this movie wins Best Picture at the Academy Awards, the entire show will reak of hollywood nepotism and absurdity. Avatar has not only made more money then any picture in history worldwide and in every country, but has revolutionized movie history the way sound and color did - no easy feat for sure. So you tell me that The Hurt Locker, a film NO ONE EVEN SAW OR WANTS TO SEE and it fraught witn error should win? If that's the case then movies aren't made for the people anymore, just for the critics and I for one will not be interested in anything ever again that the academy has to say about what deserves an award for it will be a farce of an organization. Sorry but it's true.
I think most of the critics want to be "cool" and like this picture just because it's James Camerons wife's pic and they HATE Cameron. Not a good reason...you must be the only non corrupt critic left.

Lol um Gone with the Wind really made more money than Avatar if you were to convert how much the dollar was worth back then to now it the movie made close to 3.5 billion worldwide Avatar only made 3.2 billion world wide... Plus Avatar lacked a well-developed story unlike The Hurtlocker which had a great story.
