Weekly Ketchup: Kathryn Bigelow Takes On A Bin Laden Movie

Summary

As the film industry prepares for the start of the Cannes Film Festival on May 11, enough announcements were made this week to fill two editions of the Weekly Ketchup. Among the stories that made the cut are new projects for directors Kathryn Bigelow and Quentin Tarantino, the casting of supporting roles in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln biopic, remakes of Tomb Raider and Seven Samurai, and a Glee movie. The Tarantino film sounds really awesome, assuming it actually goes through.

As for the Seven Samurai remake... why... just why.

To hell with glee, the ridiculous stories, its terrible computer enhanced mickey mouse club performances, and the 'snappy' mumbly dialog (Yes, I shamefully gave it a fair chance).... I'd rather watch a triple twilight marathon with my eyes taped open with a fan blowing on my face than watch a single episode of this crappy gawd awful series.

I'm jacked for a new Tarantino movie. I actually enjoy everthing the man films. Sad Sally his long time editor is dead, but looking forward to the next flick. Wonder if the style will be slightly different or if Tarantino will begin editing his own stuff.

The concepts of reason and logic are void and null in many sectors of Hollywood. Why the hell does The Seven Samurai need a remake? It doesn't need to be remade again.

00 - Cool, can't wait to see UBL shot through the head in all of Hollywood's style! PS, to everyone saying that we shouldn't cheer someone's death - I fucking bet your grandparents cheered when Hitler kicked the bucket, so stfu.
01 - Hell yes! Cannot wait for this, it sounds so awesome, plus: Will Smith AND Samuel "BMF" Jackson in a Tarantino film? Yo, anyone hook me up with a time machine? No? Well, fuck you, then.
02 - Paranorman sounds awesome as well, Coraline is one of my favorite animated movies so I have high hopes in this one.
03 - This is actually pretty cool, I like Croft as a character and hopefully the actress they get to play her won't look like a fucking Botox-infused plastic blow up doll again.
04 - Yay, more Spielberg! Hopefully this will be the "Schindler's List" Spielberg and not the "War of the Worlds/Minority Report/Indy 4" hack that has been rearing his ugly head lately.
05 - I'm just happy Zemickis finally got that nail in the coffin housing his Mo-cap fantasies - cos they REALLY sucked. Maybe now he'll actually make a good movie?
06 - I have never seen an episode, or a clip, of Glee, and don't plan on starting now. To use Mr. Furley's favorite word in a sentence: you have to be fruity to enjoy Glee. If you got that reference - I love you.
07 - I don't like Bradley Cooper, something about him pisses me off.
08 - Pompeii sounded like it had a little bit of promise before the words "...directed by Paul WS Anderson" appeared in text, now I know it will fucking suck.
09 - I really don't even know what to say at this point - I'm so far past Angry that I'm just gonna give up. This is THE worst remake idea I've ever heard of - how the fuck does any director think that they can one-up the original? Kurosawa is arguably the greatest director who ever lived, why would you even touch his work? That's like if Joe next door tries to remake the Mona Lisa with a crayon and some glitter.

The.Watcher

lol I don't think "I wanna punch him in the face repeatedly" would be the correct emotional response the producers would want to attain from the audience after seeing their Satan character... my guess is they'd want an actor who could be creepy/scary. I say cast Peter Stormare in the role, I really dug him in Constantine.

Nice...another moron with a keyboard who is actually stupid enough to think he has any idea what the F is up with Osama...nice of you to cheer the murder of a guy when you have absolutely ZERO knowledge of any wrong he may have done. Was Osama a jerk wad? Sure, but to this day, there is exactly ZERO evidence to suggest he had anything whatsoever to do with any attack on America...

So while folks might have cheered the death of Hitler, at least they would have been able to do so confident in the fact that they actually had reason to do so...all you have to go on is the proven obfuscation of the mass murderers on Capital Hill...

Osama Bin Laden was shown on national tv and actual recordings were heard for taking full credit on all the suicidal attacks regarding all the developed countries of the world, just like Adolf Hitler went on television declaring war against the world. I usually agree with most of what you say, Watcher, but I have to admit I actually dig Spielberg's Minority Report. That said, I agree that The Tomb Raider news is interesting, and hope they go in the direction the next game is, which is a gritty, down and dirty take on Laura Croft. And yeah, Bradley Cooper has somethig perculiar going on with him that I cannot point out at all....

No prob Crunk, I know that I'm in the Minority (hehe) with my views on Minority Report, but something about that movie just didn't click with me, I've tried watching it many, many times but never was able to finish it.

Tarantino's new movie could go either way. In principle, though, it's promising.

Remaking "Seven Samurai" is generally a lame idea, but at least they're trying to do something new/different with it insteading of Gus Vant Sant-ing it. Or worse, Niel Labute-ing it. It worked for "Magnificient Seven" and "Bug's Life", so who knows.
