Loved this movie; a thoroughly enjoyabl exp. Great cinematography, and superb performance by the Brit who played King "Bertie" (the stutterer). Showed a side of Pres Roosevelt unknown to me.e
Since the character played by Laura Linney lived to be 100 & kept all her papers & her personal"cathedral" to Roosevelt, some credence given to her story. Agree Bill Murray could have done a job of "sounding" like Roosevelt.
I loved the awkwardness depicted here in Pinteresque style of Royalty desperately trying to keep their upper lips stiff and their regal images intact in a pivotal moment of history. The discomfort of the king and queen was touching and brilliantly rendered.
Also, the fact that the story is narrated by the least interesting character and is essentially about a series of trivial, if momentous, events was a delightful change. FDR's lightheartedness played against the gravity of the royals was a delicious observation of the Brits demeanour vs the Americans (dare I say it?)and Bill Murray was beyond reproach.
One lost opportunity, perhaps, in the car conversation between Daisy and Missy, might have been to explore just a little bit deeper the positive side to empathizing with a needy man of many mistresses.
