A young, female sociologist conducts a informal survey about Swedish society in which she asks questions about politics and sexuality. Meanwhile, she begins an affair with a married salesman, and the two make love in numerous places -- including in public. In the process, she searches for her own identity and becomes a political activist. Sjöman blurs the lines between his characters and the actors portraying them, and utilizes a loose narrative structure. Among the filmmaking styles used are cinéma vérité and newsreel. [More]

Today we can get our sex with less punishment, which is progress of a sort. Full Review |

What was once considered audacious and experimental now seems rather quaint and artistically pretentious. Full Review |

I actually stood in line in 1967 to see this? Mediocre and forgettable today, and then.

The mix of frivolousness and moral reproach, though, seems altogether '60s, rather than particularly Swedish. Full Review |

A distant, cold and tricky movie, the kind about which you can never say: this is precisely right or wrong. Full Review |

I suspect that I am Curious (Yellow) will remain largely, well, a curiosity. Full Review |

The movie is simply, basically, boring. It is stupid and slow and uninteresting. Full Review |

At once humorously annoying, politically dynamic, and clever the film is a reasonably enjoyable two hours. Full Review |

It is an intellectually stimulating work with a smart, comical atmosphere, and it sustains its appeal through the perky modern attitude exhibited by Nyman, even when she has her clothing on. Full Review |

Rarely very stimulating to watch, but significant in the evolution of audiences', critics' and censors' attitudes to film. Full Review |

As a time capsule piece, it's fascinating, yet as a stand-alone film, it's only intermittently interesting. Full Review |

I Am Curious--Yellow is entertaining for its novelty, and exhaustive in its political intent. Its notorious reputation (attributed only to its frank sexuality), however, is misleading. Full Review |

Is it art, or just Euro-porn? By the end of this mess, you really won't care.
