Movie Info

This courtroom drama and murder mystery concerns the conduct of Dr. Christine Allison (Susan Hayward). The Canadian physician follows her lover to England to care for him during an illness. When his illness is found to be incurable, he requests a lethal dose of morphine from her to end his suffering. Christine is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the lay by attorney Stephen Dane (Peter Finch). After a two year jail term, Dane offers her a job caring for his flighty, bed-ridden wife who has been injured in an auto accident. When the young wife is found dead from an overdose of pills, the innocent doctor is again put on trial. This time, she is defended by Dane. Soon Christine is up to her stethoscope in suspicion of everyone around her as she maintains her innocence.more
