In the end, alas, the obvious interests of an actor of Sinise's range and depth are subsumed to the blunt demands of a standardized chase movie.

Sinise stars as Spencer Olham, a weapons expert in 2079 who wakes up one morning to find himself accused of being an alien. He sets out on the run, being hunted down by Major Hathaway (Vincent D'Onofrio). He receives help from an underground leader (Mekhi Pipher), and upon returning to the city, he must convince his wife, Maya (Madeleine Stowe), and his best friend, Nelson (Tony Shalhoub), that he is indeed her husband and not some kind of robot monster with a bomb in his chest. With IMPOSTOR, director Gary Fleder (DON'T SAY A WORD) has crafted an edgy, fast-paced film that contains elements of Alfred Hitchcock's THE WRONG MAN, Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER (also based on a Dick story), Andrew Davis's THE FUGITIVE, and Paul Verhoeven's ROBOCOP. Sinise gets to flex his muscles as he continually escapes from Hathaway and a torture device that Goldfinger would be proud of, the Vivisector. The futuristic, fascistic world created by production designer Nelson Coates and shot beautifully by cinematographer Robert Elswit is the perfect setting for this ultimate battle of man against machine, the individual against the state, love and humanity against order and militarism. Reviews for Impostor
Stuffed with more filling than a Christmas turkey..., the movie lumbers along when it should be sprinting.
Though Impostor deviously adopts the guise of a modern motion picture, it too is a bomb.
Unless there are zoning ordinances to protect your community from the dullest science fiction, Impostor is opening today at a theater near you.
Not a disaster by any means, but neither is it the futuristic parable it so clearly wants to be.
Despite fine performances and some fun moments, Impostor too frequently relies on contrived plot points to reach its revelatory climax.
May not be the cinematic abortion I expected, but it does resemble a C-section--the outcome turns out just fine, but it still leaves a big, old mess in its wake.
The bottom line, at least in my opinion, is Impostor makes a better short story than it does a film.
While the film isn't horrendous or exactly torture to sit through, it's clearly not as good as it might have been.
In the transition from prescient work of fiction to pummelling popcorn flick, Impostor seems to have had its soul hijacked.
This movie is something of an impostor itself, stretching and padding its material in a blur of dead ends and distracting camera work.
The film goes from being an unusual sci-fi character study to a chase flick that detracts from its ending.
