Critic Review - Chicago Reader

Inception delivers dazzling special effects and a boatload of stars, but it sags and eventually buckles under the weight of its complicated premise.

Seriously, It is quite a stretch to call this a review, let alone a top review!!!
Rotten tomatoes needs to review it's classifications.

That is what you call a review? A paragraph? Interesting.

barely even a review: it's one paragraph that literally says "don't watch this because it's complicated."

fanboyism aside, i think people deserve a better reason to know why it's rated 'rotten.'

what kind of review is this? he is a top critic?!?!?! are you kidding me?! the names of the actors themselves takes up most of the space in the paragraph...he doesnt even say why its bad..he just basically says he didnt understand it and thats it...this is actually the worst review ive ever seen

You don't even have to see the movie to know this is a horrible review...You give the movie a rotten because you don't understand it? Awesome...Why is this person a "top critic"?

Oh will you shut the fuck up already? I saw you on EVERY negative review I've seen so far thrashing it with your repetitive comments that are utterly devoid of intelligence or sensibility of any kind. It seems that some people really don't have anything to do but spend their time on sites like this and insult others, no matter how wrong they are.

It is all relative. Someone likes the movie, someone doesn't. Someone provides good, conclusive arguments to support their opinion and their review and someone doesn't. WHO THE FUCK CARES?

I cannot believe that I registered just to write this at midnight while reading this cluster fuck but here I am. I'll probably copy/paste this as an answer to every similar person like yourself because it would be blasphemous to waste any more time and energy on writing new comments.

The movie has flaws. It is nearly impossible to make such a complex film without any holes. The movie also neglects certain aspects that should've been explored further perhaps. But then it would last a lot more than 2.5 hours. All in all it is a breath of originality in the world where the words cliche and remake have taken a whole new meaning. In my opinion, it is definitely a movie worth seeing. An intelligent, very well executed piece of art that will (if you let it) put your mind to the test. I am not saying that I understood everything, but I think Nolan went for exactly the thing he pulled off here - you just need to go with the flow. And in the end, you will be left with something to reflect upon. It is engaging and unique, it makes you think. It should be noted for its technical merits too, though frankly, I'm tired of all these special effects taking over the film industry. In fact, they can no longer be called special.

One last thing to add - the ending was certainly NOT a disappointment for me. A wise teacher once told me in high school - if you ever write a book, leave the ending inconclusive, leave the readers guessing. It is precisely that which will make it great. Leave it upon them to finish and tailor the ending according to their desires.

Last but not least, it is worth mentioning that my official IQ is 143 - this is for all the assholes who are mentioning "lack of intelligence" in their critiques. In addition, English is NOT my vernacular so pardon any grammatical mistakes or inaccuracies of any kind regarding use of the language.

Read the whole review... sounds like he just didn't understand it so rather than sound ignorant he dismisses it.

this movie is simply the most amazing, compelling story made in the a long time. It is a self reflective tale about the very core of humanity. The core of artistic creation. It is the framework for a completely new way of telling a story. One that is self evident, and all encompassing. A story of a character at 5 different levels, through 5 different times, in a perfect ratio of time elapsed on each of those levels. It is a temporal form. With self-evident periods of rotation. The framework for telling a whole new echelon of movies has been created. And you now understand that and are amazed I know.

Wait this is seriously a top review? Oh and is it Christopher Nolan's fault that you are too big of an idiot to understand a movie as good as Inception?

What was complicated about it? The mere fact that you can't comprehend something doesn't mean it sucks.

A word of advice to all of you so called professional critics,if a movie confuses you, do not give it a bad review for that reason. It's not the critics fault your not smart enough to follow this movie. In fact inception is pretty well layed out for you and easy to follow, just pay attention, and think outside of the box.

I suppose not everyone can be smart enough to understand a film like this...or have an imagination that would allow them to enjoy it...sad..

Totally agree with the splat. This film has a weak motivating premise for such a baroque visual spectacle. Most of the characters (like the amazing Ellen Page) are not allowed to really expand, even DiCaprio seems forced into clipped goofy dialog at times.

So three layers of explosions and violence, dreams within dreams, is it really all that complex and interesting? Give me the Baader Meinhof Complex over this any day.

In Hitchcockian terms, this film has one weak Macguffin.
