Packed with fights and chases--but then so were the old Tom and Jerry cartoons. The worst Steven Spielberg popcorn flick since 1941.

KMS_Critic you should see a psychiatrist...the world is a rotten whole because people like you cant stand anyone to defer from your thinking or attitude...seriously,something is wrong with you.

I respectfully disagree. Spielberg made worse films than this one after 1941, such as RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, WAR OF THE WORLDS, THE TERMINAL, HOOK, etc.

You know, I actually registered because of your comment. He gives a negative review, and you want him banned. You know, I actually agree with his review.
This has to be the worst installment of the Indiana Jones series, and I was gravely disappointed in Steven Speilberg and Harrison Ford. This one movie made me lose interest in Steven Speilberg's work.

So monado you are saying that just because of one movie that speilberg made that you don't like, even considering his entire body of work, it has turned you off to his movies forever...wait I am sorry, has made you lose interest...not turned you off to his work...wow...I would hate to have any kind of close relationship with someone that loses interest in things just because of one thing...lol...good luck!! This movie was great...I really enjoy Speilberg's direction and humor in approaching this film...This Indy was what I hoped would return to the big screen.

You blame the wrong people. Spielberg faught long and hard and LOST. TOTALLY George Lucas fault for insisting on the alien factor.

This film is a great installment to the series. I hope they make a 5th. People have been slamming this movie, because they've been waiting nearly 20 years for it, and it's not the same one that's been playing in their mind all that time. They somehow believe it's inferior, because it's "not as good" as the first three. I recently viewed "Last Crusade" again, and it is clearly the worst of the bunch. Sean Connery probably seemed good "on paper", to play Indy's father, but his whining performance ruins the movie. And how do you explain the stone bridge Indy crosses to get to the Grail? There's a shot, looking straight down the chasm, from the ledge; and it's a bottomless black pit. Wouldn't he have seen the bridge? Just because it "blends in" with the texture from the wall on the other side, is no explanation for why he can't see it, when he looks straight down. And why is it, that when he steps on the letter "J" (the incorrect letter), he falls through. But he grabs onto another incorrect letter, to pull himself to safety? Wouldn't that letter break, as well? And let's not get started with "Temple Of Doom"; you need a calculator to add up all of the flaws, inconsistancies and suspension of logic. But my point is, that they were still enjoyable. Just like "Crystal Skull" was. Granted, "Raiders" is a flat-out-masterpiece, and none have been nearly as good. But "Crystal Skull" was worth the wait, and I would rank it at #3 (out of the four).David

This movie was the best movie I've ever seen. How can you say that! Saying the Tom and Jerry comment also means that Rambo,Diehard and the dark knight were bad too!

I really, really enjoyed this film. In my opinion, it was one of the best films to come out in 2008. I know that some people compare it to the old ones and believe the newest installment to be inferior--which is understandable but definitely debatable as well. Personally, I though the 4th Jones movie did justice to the previous 3.My ranking:#1 - Raiders of the Lost Ark (nothing more need be said)#2 - Last Crusade (not as good as the first)#3 - Crystal Skull#4 - Temple of Doom (piece of **** compared to the others)

I think you were a bit mean about her face, but everything I agree with completely. In fact you were pretty much spot on with what you said. It was all in line with what I thought. Sadly.. I really wanted to love this movie. I grew up on Indiana Jones. I hate seeing my childhood classics defiled by these idiots.

I really think more reviewers should have been as hostile or more hostile than this-- Indy 4 was utter crap for a lot of the same reasons the Star Wars prequels were crap, but they were crap films featuring characters we have all known and loved forever, so it makes these films almost impossible to ignore, which makes them seem better than they actually are. Even if Temple of Doom wasn't stellar, it didn't have anything as stupid as a 50s greaser swinging on vines like Tarzan, a fridge being tossed across the desert by a nuclear blast that manages to devour a car, an old man driven insane and ranting nonsense played for laughs, or a known liar stating 'I'm a double agent' and then having everyone believe him, even when he hasn't proved the slightest bit valuable as a double agent... something which just makes everyone involved look stupid. In fact, I can't think of a single moment throughout the rest of the franchise where the audience or the main characters were treated with such a lack of respect. This 'popcorn flick' only made me uncomfortable and embarrassed.

I agree. I can't even believe how horrible this movie was. I think that no one wanted to make another Indie movie, but because Hollywood paid up they just decided to make a piece of crap and line their pockets. I mean really, some of the dialog was sickening, and the plot was so weak it was hard to watch at times. the other 3 movies sucked you in and had a great vibe. I couldn't connect with anything this entire movie and wish I never saw it so I could at least think of it as a potentially good end to the saga.

I completely agree with this review. I'm sad for the future if even the critics are defending terrible movies with terrible plots like this. Good for you, Kyle, for standing up to the incorrect majority.

I loved this movie, and anyone who doesn't are too over-fixated with the characters that are simply made up by Lucas and Spielberg. Not you nor by anyone else. You guys didn't even thought up the characters and already dictating how and what they're supposed act. Not even real characters. I also loved the fact that the notion of UFO may have existed but could 've been covered up by water, who knows what is underneath us.

this movie is awful get over it...indiana jones survives a nuclear blast in a refrigerator, it's bloody terrible

What an outstanding review. I thought Rotten Tomatoes had gone mad when I saw this film get a fresh rating. One of the worst films of last year. Thank you, Kyle Smith, for keeping the bar at some minimally reasonable height.

I'm agreeing with the review and the comments. This is a sad excuse for an indiana jones 4. A blatant studio movie slapped together with weak dialogue and poor performances.
