My intuition is telling me not to get excited for this movie. I don't know why, because I love the Indiana Jones franchise. I just think this one might be too little, too late. I hope I'm proved wrong.

i've warmed up to Shia(still think he's a d3ckhead though) being in this but every image i see of Ford makes me cringe. c'mon, its called makeup...you can't put MORE on the guy to make him look LESS old?? i'm sorry but seeing him look like that makes me think he needs a cane instead of that whip. it looks like they're trying to make him look OLDER than he actually is, which is even more depressing because that means they're doing it to move the franchise to LeBeuf. this wreaks of cash before creativity. i hope its a great flick but i'd put $ on it sucking big time

I know how this sounds, but doesn't this look a lot like the final scene in National Treasure 1? I mean, I know that NatT is a blatant rip-off of 'Jones, but I couldn't help but notice...

Generally, I agree with OperaGhost and remain cautiously optimistic.

So what is this, anyway - is every poster on this thread of the opinion that Indiana Jone's character wasn't supposed to age after drinking from the Cup in "Holy Grail"?

This movie supposedly takes place roughly 15 years after the events of "Holy Grail' - wait til you've gone through another fifteen years, and THEN ***** that you've gotten "Older Looking".

urgh, the cup crap again?? seriously we've been over this. you have to continue drinking from it. its like roids. it lasts for a little while and helps you deal with a gunshot(although where the bullet goes, nobody knows!) or a stabbin'. you simply had to keep the cup away from going past the seal. that was IT. had NOTHING to do with the person. if that guy's bros had come back and wanted to have a Christy Cup Keg Party...they could have and would have been fine. still woulda been old(felt young) but it has NOTHING to do with the person's location. thats why old man river who protected it was elderly looking, it wasn't PERFECT and longlasting...and he probably got sick of drinking that sh3t water after awhile so in between the times he drank it...he aged. dude was in there for like 700 years, no Xbox 360...no tv...NO CHICAS! dude got bored and tired of drinkin' that crap. so unless you KEEP chuggin' on a regular basis...you're going to lose the effects. end of frikkin story...class dismissed

That was my point, Indy left the cave place, couldn't take the cup past the seal and so didnt get continuous use of the water, so he aged.
The knights didnt live to be 200 after they left the cave but were 200 when they left. right?

Indy looks old, but he should. Harrison Ford is a great role actor and really made trilogies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones memorable for a timeless demographic. However, the true magic in the Indiana Jones series is the vintage, gritty adventure-reel style and narrative. King Kong had elements of this style, but these types of movies are quite a rarity.

Will Indy be the same? Of course not - he's older and I really doubt he'd be able to tumble through a narrowing death trap (you know he will at least once). However, maybe the movie will tap more into his internal character - something that doesn't happen in the first 3 movies. What drives Indiana Jones? Its gotta be more than the money. Let Shia do all the tumbling, diving, and vine swinging - he's great at that and does have a certain Ford-esque charisma about him when put in the right movie.

Shorty - get my stuff!!!

Oh, for crying out loud. Have you guys ever met a movie you couldn't criticize based on 1/24th of a second of it?

If you've read ANYTHING about this movie, you know Indy is SUPPOSED to be older. Older. Like ALL of us. And still going at it. Seems cool to me.

Can't wait for it. No gadgets, not chock-full of CGI (crap-generated imagery), just a good, old-fashioned adventure. National Treasure would love to be the movie this is.

If the Internet had been around in 1981, you'd probably be saying the first stills from "Raiders" looked too much like "The Man Who Would Be King" and that Harrison Ford looked wooden and stiff. There's always something to complain about, ain't there? Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

(And all your complaining makes you all sound like the REAL old codgers!)

on the age thing. yeah, he's SUPPOSED to age but do you really wanna see that in a favorite movie character?? honestly, would it not damper your spirits if you saw say...Scooby Doo aged so much that he can't see...is p2ssing everywhere...and is about to put to sleep? ok that might be more entertaining but lets say...James Bond for instance. if they got connery to do another, wouldn't that be too old? "Metamucil...shaken...not stirred". "the name's Bond...i think, or maybe its Bacon...ah fizzlesticks, i can't remember...where's my pills?" or Batman thats 70 years old. he'd have to make a special compartment in his batsuit just to empty the adult diapers. again, YEAH he's supposed to age but this is really close to the line where its almost sad watching one of cinema's best heroes turn into Strom Thurmond in between movies. yes its JUST a movie but its still depressing none the less...but its hollywood, where money talks.
