See Brad Pitt in the First Inglourious Basterds Official Image
Quentin Tarantino's violent WWII epic now filming in Germany.

Discuss Article

With production underway in Germany, and a recently announced synopsis and full cast lineup, what could get you more excited about Quentin Tarantino's WWII pic Inglourious Basterds? How about the very first production image, featuring Brad Pitt on set as Tennessee hillbilly Lt. Aldo Raine??

Universal has released the first image from Inglourious Basterds, which is currently filming on location in Germany. Behold, Brad Pitt in character as Lt. Aldo Raines, the leader of the Nazi-scalping Jewish-American Army squad known as the "Basterds"!

So far, this is appears to be the only official image in release (we have confirmed with the studio that the "teaser" poster floating around the web is fan made and not official).

Based on the Enzo Castellari Italian war movie Inglorious Bastards, Tarantino's Basterds follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers (including Pitt, B.J. Novak, and Eli Roth) behind enemy lines in Nazi-occupied France, a German actress and resistance fighter (Diane Kruger), and a young woman with her own agenda for vengeance (Melanie Laurent).

Inglourious Basterds is currently scheduled for a 2009 release.

The only thing this picture tells us is that we now know for certain that Tarantino is back in the director's chair and that 2009 will have at least one great movie.

sweet - finally good to see a movie about WWII and Jews that is focused on them as strong and merciless as opposed to weak and helpless.

Oh yeah, and the fact QT is directing makes me cream my pants

I thought Munich portrayed Jews as strong and merciless.

Too bad The Road will suck compared to the book. There is also WATCHMEN and PUBLIC ENEMIES. Cool image though, I bet it gets a summer release.

I doubt it'll get a summer release if they JUST now are starting shooting. Knowing Tarantino, he'll probably push it back till Fall or maybe even Winter 09.

Jokerboy you need to Check out John Hillcoat's other movie "The Proposition" before you declare that "The Road" is going to suck, because that one was a solid flick. Regardless "The Road" will still be better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That one looks like a crap sandwich.

Even if the road is half as good as the book it will be great. It sucks too I was really looking forward to see The Road this year. With watchmen in 09 alone it will be a great year(and the best part is it comes out early)

The book can STFU, because the movie will be good. If you take Catcher in the Rye and take away ten % of it's greatness, you'd still have an amazing movie.

Secondly, Tarantino is god and this looks good. However I'm sure it'll be amazing somehow like all of his movies.

This picture is epic. I am so excited for new tarantino. Yeah next year is going to be the best year for movies. And no, actually, Watchmen will NOT suck. Watchmen will be the second greatest comic movie ever (Dark Knight will be hard to beat). The Road will just be really hard to transfer.

Every time I am near a computer, i head straight for tarantino.info to check for updates. Tarantino is my favorite director, and i can already tell that this is going to be one of his best. I read the script, and its incredible, id say its on par with Reservoir Dogs, maybe even Pulp Fiction.

oh and i got Watchmen on Tuesday afternoon, and i finished it on Wednesday night, and i have to say, its one of the best things Ive ever read. Now the movie is around 3 on my most anticipated list, which is:

1. Inglourious Basterds
2. Sin City 2
3. Watchmen
4. Machete (if it ever gets released)

People need to stop saying this is a "remake" or is "based on" the Italian film "Inglorious Bastards." They are, other than the title, unrelated.

Thank God there's a new QT movie on the way. I always look forward to seeing his films and have never yet been let down one bit.

This film may be a good indication that 2009 will be a better year for movies than the dreadful flicks of this years' past.

I guess only time will tell.

Not only is this the most anticipating, but here are a few other that I am looking forward to watching:

Friday the 13th remake
Wolverine
Watchmen
Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans
The Stepfather remake
Transformers 2
Terminator 4
Fast and furious 4
Final destination 4 in 3-D

If you guys noticed, last year was summer of three's, this year is summer of four's.

I am excited for The Road. The book was excellent and so far all the negative reviews of the movie make it sound as if the movie is EXACTLY like the book. Bleak and dark. The story is about a father trying to help his son survive through a completely diminished and depressed post-apocalyptic world. It will be hard to portray on the big screen, but after some of the pictures I have seen, it looks like John Hillcoat nailed the interpretation. Now I am hoping the Weinsteins (morons) don't ruin it and that the acting follows through.

I am also excited about Inglorious Basterds.
