I can see how you think it's 'annoying' down to the removal of the catharsis element; that being the antagonist(Clive Owen) doesn't get his comeuppance so the audience is left rather confounded. The ending which subsequently answers all the narrative enigmas surrounding the bank robbery, Detective Keith Frazier(Denzel Washington) and the diamonds is an ending I thoroughly enjoyed, it was displayed majestically and strikingly by Spike Lee which just makes it a wonderful gritty thriller.
