If there's a complaint to be made about Insidious, it's that the film's second half is unable to live up to the impossibly high standards set by the first half.
If there's a complaint? You make it sound like that might be debatable. And impossibly high standards? No... impossibly high does not look like that. Impossibly high standards makes you want to jump out of your seat or scream or SOMETHING other than leaving the theater before things reaaaally go downhill. If that's your idea of impossibly high standards, then your standards are obviously impossibly low. They could have done much more with both halves of the film. The first half is not some shining exception.

I hate to agree with you because I actually enjoyed this film, but I agree. The story itself is bad, which encompasses most of the first half. This quotable alone, sans the full review, is ridiculous.

I didnt read the full review but i actually thought that small 4 liner sumed up the movie. I had seen that you denied his views and stated how wrong he was, but I didn't see one arguable comment that you made in regard to the movie. How are you going to say the movie is bad without giving any evidence. All you gave was a pointless opinion to make the guy think his taste in movies is wrong. I did happen to see the movie and I would love for you to please give me one that would have me more freaked out because I haven't seen many. It may be because you've watched 10 times more movies than I did, but I would still like to see one that is scarier. The beginning of it had me freaked out because I had no idea what was going on and the things happening seemed very easily possible in real life. The end got a little weird because they had to make some kind of a story out of it, but I also think they did a good idea trying to make something that seems pretty possible, especially for people who are into that kind of thing. Like I said, if you're going to disagree, at least have an argument, and if you have one that is better, please let me know and I can see if you really know what your talking about.

Umm. I don't believe that you fully understand his comment. I believe what he was trying to say about "impossibly high standards" was that the second half was'nt able to reach or coincide with the decent effectiveness of the first half, making it seem as though there's a LARGE GAP between these two halves dealing with overall effectiveness. "Impossibly High standards" is basically emphasizing the fact of the matter that the second half didn't agree well with the degree of the first half, making it seem as though the second half was impossibly low in standards, so far off near the line of "impossibly high" that it should be be considered "impossibly low" making "impossibly high" a sensible title to the first half when COMPARING [Underline. Underline. Underline] (so in this case Impossible high isn't literally impossibly high but more of an exaggeration used to COMPARE). Please do not try to take things literally when you read critic's comments (Wait, when you read an analysis PERIOD) because you truly sound like a complete moron with some idiotic ego. Your comment is hollow and weak, as if it was said by some big headed middle school-er.

I completely agree with your review! I really loved the first half of the movie, the first ghost appearances! I think it was pretty well done. The astral projection theme was also interesting, but I don't think it was well executed.

I overlooked the fact that the astral projection was basically just a smoky house with weird, mannequin-like freaks in it. I thought what they lacked in art design they made up for with tone. The creaky violins worked.

Sorry James, there's NOTHING intelligent about these characters, this plot...nothing!
Jul 18 - 06:23 PM
By high standards you mean putting someone to sleep after a case of Red Bull?
Aug 12 - 01:40 PM
The movie was a pile of shit. It's that simple.

I'm just going to say this, James, you simply are without a doubt my least favorite critic... and that's saying something.
Sep 2 - 11:40 PM
If the whole movie was like the first half it would have been awesome!! If the whole movie was like the second half then it would still have been pretty damn cool. But the jump from a really serious and scary movie to, well, almost a spoof on Poltergeist... Yeah, I didn't like that too much.

Impossibly high standards? if there's a complaint? top critic? were you smoking weed while watching this? because if you were then i can understand

This movie is insidiously awful despite a terrific trailer and a first hour with a semi scary ambiance. at one point they start copying the entity with barbara hershey as well as having her a small role, the scene in wich the psychic investigators come to hershey's house in the movie the entity with the tough psychic female investigator is a straight rip off of the entity. i was thier until the astral projection talk and gask mask scene where i sadly almost started laughing. Also annoying in the first hour is the baby crying constantly, making me glad im single lol. highly agree with this review. watch the entity instead a much better film with barbara hershey.

Agreed. I really enjoyed the first half of the movie, got a lot of frights and whatnot, but as the story went on it got more and more farfetched... I think the 'second world' could've been done better. Overall though, I did enjoy it.
