The new live-action feature from Disney is in its own way just as much of a cartoon as Tarzan. It's almost as much of a wonder, too.

...a kind of relentless "wacky" slapstick movie that plays like Robocop (a film that shares its basic plot) married to Pee-wee's Big Adventure.

Broderick is likeable as the gizmo-laden cartoon hero, but the plot could have used a tune-up.

Inspector Gadget tries so hard to be funny, aiming alternately at kids and their parents, that it misses on all counts.
