Despite the convulsively jittery address to the role, [Downey] is never in the smallest degree engaging in the way director Jon Favreau appears to think.
Only a lame- *** 'critic' like Peter Bradshaw would talk about a pointless war when robots are fighting.

only a pretentious a$$hole would read that much into a superhero movie. FAIL-

Derisive, entirely uncalled for comments regarding the alleged size of your manhood made by ignorant loners notwithstanding, your review of Iron Man is utter ****e. 2 out of 5 stars? Truly, you are an embarrassment to your profession.Tell me, what good is your flowery rhetoric when your basic sense of perception is utterly, irrevocably f-cked? For If you honestly believe that "[Downey] is never in the smallest degree engaging in the way director Jon Favreau appears to think" then you, my friend, are completely out of touch with consensus reality. Now, perhaps you were unfamiliar with the character of Tony Stark prior to viewing the film. If so, then let me say, unequivocaly, that the decision to cast Downey Jr. in the role of billionaire-playboy-industrialist Stark was nothing short of divinely inspired, and Downey, for his part, is phenomenal. You sir, have failed miserably at the seemingly simple task of recognizing a superior [superhero] genre piece when it is presented to you. It makes my blood boil to think that even one person might be influenced by your shoddy, entirely too self-satisfied, review. You've done a disservice not only to the makers of an exceptionally well-made and extremely satisfying superhero movie, but also to the impressionable readers of the Guardian.

Bad teeth, bad review. Pretentious Pete just doesn't quite get it.

At least, of all the negative reviews I have seen for this great movie I would rank this as only a 'fail', not the 'epic fail' that most of these clowns have earned.

Why should this guy have to know the whole back story of Iron Man before he can review the flick? He's a movie critic. Not a nerd.

Umm..."We are supposed to see the vulnerable, adorable hero inside the hulking iron shell."
Are you kidding? Vulnerable is bad enough, but...adorable? Really?
That's almost laughably idiotic. Iron Man is supposed to kick *** and take names, which he succesfully does. He is NOT supposed to be huggably soft. He's freakin' IRON MAN.

Really because i thoroughly enjoyed Downey, i thought he was charming, funny, and clever through out the entire film. Along with 93% of the critics and pretty much any person that watched it. I understand you have to review through you're perspective but if you think of the viewers perspective, you might realize that you're wrong.

Peter Bradshaw really did get this one wrong in a big way. Robert Downey Jr was PERFECT as Tony Stark in this film. Jeff Bridges was great as well.
The main thing i liked about this film was the way that the Favreau never lost the plot like so many comic book films before have done so badly.
Some people just don't get it, i cannot begrudge the man for it though.
