Five Favorite Films With Taylor Lautner
Not too many actors get to headline an action thriller while still in their teens, but then career trajectories can be a little different when you're an alumnus of a certain billion-dollar vampire franchise. Still just 19, Taylor Lautner was always the most likely of the Twilight triangle to embrace the action genre: his chiseled physique and Cruise junior profile suggest a screen life of tangling with bad guys, which is precisely what he does in director John Singleton's Bourne-like paranoid escapade, Abduction . With Abduction in theaters this week, we had the chance to chat with the personable Lautner about working on the film, where he sees his career heading, and his experience living inside the crazy celebrity bubble of the Twilight series. But first, he talked about his five favorite films. Take it away, Team Jacob.

Marvel Movie Madness! Part 30: Iron Man
Tim: Hands down, Iron Man is my favorite Marvel movie. For me, Robert Downey Jr.'s performance as Tony Stark -- a cross between Steve Jobs and James Bond -- is pitch-perfect. He's a charming rogue with a conscience, someone who you can relate to and dream of being. (And unlike most wiseacre heroes, Tony Stark's witty bon mots seem to come more from the mouth of someone who's supremely self-confident -- not a screenwriter.) Downey's performance is the highlight, but Iron Man gets just about everything else right as well. Too many blockbusters feel the need to throw everything at the screen in clumps, but Iron Man is remarkably well-paced; it gives the story and its characters room to breathe, and its (admittedly awesome) special effects never overwhelm the narrative. The action sequences are stupendous, but never arbitrary -- this is a movie that trusts the audience will stay entertained without resorting to explosions every five minutes.

Tomatometer Watch: Will Iron Man 2 Blast Off With Critics?
After smashing the 2008 box office with a performance only topped by fellow superhero "The Dark Knight" that year, "Iron Man" might have surprised many moviegoers (and critics!) with its critical success, achieving a Certified Fresh stamp and 93% Tomatometer. In a sequel filled Summer, there is no doubt that "Iron Man 2" is one of the season's and the year's most anticipated movies. Suiting up Don Cheadle, a scarlet-haired Scarlett Johansson, and a whiplashing Mickey Rourke this time around, the sequel's star power has certainly done its part to give the film all the hype you'd expect and more.

Robert Downey Jr. talks Sherlock Holmes & Iron Man 2 - RT Interview
Robert Downey Jr. can't quite remember why he was on the phone to Guy Ritchie the first time Sherlock Holmes was mentioned, but it was to give him some advice about the trailer for his comic thriller RocknRolla, not to bid for the lead in his $80m Victorian detective caper. But Downey does remember that when the conversation finally swung round that way, Ritchie told him he'd be too old for it anyway.
Nevertheless, within weeks of that chat, a press conference was held in the Freemasons Hall in central London, announcing the news that Downey had signed to play the eccentric sleuth. Just over 12 months later, the film is imminent, and what at first looked like stunt casting now appears to be a stroke of crazy genius. Once a cadaverous codger with a deerstalker hat and fogey pipe, Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous literary creation gets a jolt of adrenaline with Downey's firecracker performance, cutting a psychedelic swathe through the fog of Old London Town.
He talks exclusively to Rotten Tomatoes about the challenge of playing the most brilliant man there never was...

Total Recall: Robert Downey, Jr.'s Best Movies
Early in his career, he seemed destined to be typecast as a go-to guy for fast-talking, lovably odd characters in lightweight comedies -- and later on, he was in danger of ending his career as a cautionary tale for young actors with substance abuse problems. But after spending the better part of a decade working his way back from the brink, Robert Downey, Jr. capped off a remarkable resurgence in 2008 with Iron Man and Tropic Thunder -- a hot streak that seems likely to continue with an '09 slate that includes Sherlock Holmes and this week's The Soloist. You know what that means: it's Total Recall time!

Remember Faran Tahir's appearance as an outwitted warlord in "Iron Man"? Yeah, well, so does Tahir -- and as he tells Sci Fi Wire, just because his character doesn't appear in "Iron Man 2" doesn't mean he won't be resurfacing in the next sequel.

I know it's a little early to start worrying about the James Bond movie after this November's "Casino Royale" -- but not if you're the studio bankrolling one of the planet's most popular franchises. With that in mind, Sony is now targeting November 7th (yes, of 2008) for the arrival of what's presently being called "Bond 22."

Marvel Makes Plans for an "Avengers" Movie (Live-Action!)
I'm not even that big of a comic book geek, but when I saw that Marvel's new movie line-up included names like Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and Nick Fury, I thought to myself: "Hey, all those guys are members of The Avengers!" And guess what? Marvel knew it too, which is why they've announced a live-action "Avengers" movie!

Terrence Howard to Play "Iron Man" Pal?
So we have a release date, a director, and a villain for "Iron Man," and now comes word on a potential sidekick. Seems that "Hustle & Flow" actor Terrence Howard is being courted to play pilot Jim Rhodes, an ally who eventually becomes known as "War Machine!!"

Comic-Con 2006: "Iron Man" Villain, Armor Design, and Plot Details
...Talking about the feel of the armor, Favreau stated, "There is a sort of Robocop-like quality this character could have; I like the weight and mass and power," adding that this Iron Man would never be about martial arts "Power Rangers" moves, and instead all about heavy metal and heavy weapons.

The Comic-Con is Coming!
I attend several film festivals each year, but there's always one movie-centric event that I'd really love to attend: The San Diego Comic-Con. Movie geek heaven is what I like to call it. Read on to find out why...

"Iron Man" to Touch Down in May of '08
Over at the official MySpace blog, director Jon Favreau clued us in on one important piece of the puzzle: "Iron Man" will hit theaters in May of 2008. That's pretty much it, news-wise, but it's not too often you see a Hollywood movie director starting forum threads like "Who would you guys like to see cast as Iron Man"?

There Will Be No "X4," But....
...that doesn't mean the series won't be mined for future "stand-alone" projects, most notably the "Wolverine" spinoff and the "Magneto" semi-prequel. And I'd bet huge money that a "Next Generation X-Men" trilogy will be greenlit before too long.

Favreau Loves to Talk About "Iron Man"
MTV Movies just ran a really solid interview piece with longtime character actor and successful director Jon Favreau, and the guy has no problem sharing his perspectives on "Iron Man," plus he wants to hear from the fans, too!

Thor, Hulk, Captain America ... and a Few More New Marvels
While the hiring of Jon Favreau as "Iron Man" director is pretty exciting movie-geek news, it seems that Marvel's Avi Arad has a whole bunch of new projects just waiting to get underway. In addition to the Iron Guy's first adventure, we can now report some progress on titles like "The Ant Man," "Captain America," "Hulk 2," "Nick Fury," and (yes!) "Thor."

"Iron Man" Screenplay = Good Enough?
The movie freaks over at Latino Review (apparently) got a peek at the screenplay for New Line's eventual "Iron Man" flick, as written by genre specialists Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and David Hayter. Since I refuse to ever read a script review, I can't offer much commentary, but the LR guys give the screenplay a grade of B- (or "good enough"), which would make it better than "Fantastic Four," at least.

"Iron Man" Flees New Line and Heads Back Home to Marvel
For two years an "Iron Man" languished over at New Line, but the rights to the character have recently reverted back to the Marvel-eers, and uber-producer Avi Arad seems pretty excited about getting the adaptation ramped up at home.
