Iron Man Super Bowl Ad Coming Sunday

But get a new glimpse at Iron Man today!

Super Bowl commercials can often be just as exciting as the game itself, especially when one of those ads happens to be for one of the most highly-anticipated films of the year. Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have announced that a new trailer for Iron Man (opening May 2, 2008) will air during this Sunday's Super Bowl XLII.

Iron Man stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, a Billionaire inventor who creates weapons for the U.S. government. After being captured by the enemy, he creates a suit of armor to facilitate his escape, and becomes Iron Man.

For those of you who don't want to wait until Super Bowl Sunday, Marvel.com will tease the spot today with an all-new Iron Man image, which appears to be of Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) testing his suit's flight capabilities. The ad itself will be broadcast at approximately 4:30 p.m. PST on Sunday and should appear online afterwards at Marvel.com, Apple.com, and IronManMovie.com. It will also be available Monday on Yahoo Sports and ESPN.com. [Correction: we originally posted that the Super Bowl ad would be online today, but it won't be available until after broadcast Super Bowl Sunday at approximately 4:30pm PST. Sorry to get your hopes up!]

Iron Man opens May 2, 2008 and features Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, and Shaun Toub, and is directed by Jon Favreau.

Sweet. Along with Justin Timberlake, another reason to watch the Super Bowl!

Jen, i think you're the only person who counts JT as a reason to watch the SB.

I'll look out for this trailer during Eli and The G-Men's humliation.

Mathias, I would take the Giants more seriously. Sure, they have their odds highly against them and it is very likely Patriots could dominate, they did beat the Packers and the Cowboys and they are in the Super Bowl. They've gotten farther than a lot of people gave them credit for, and I don't think anyone should count them out yet. This is going to be a very close game.

Iron Man still needs to prove itself to me. Sure, it looks good so far, but I see no compelling reason to watch it.......yet.

Correction to the original posting made - looks like we'll have to wait til Sunday after all!

Mathias, short of the Prince halftime show, I had virtually no reason to watch last year. And I like the game of football.

Go Niners.

I was siked about this movie when I heard about the casting and everything...but I dunno this trailer really didnt do it for me...maybe its cause i like the darker and more dramatic superhero trailers like The Dark Knight...but this one seemed too light for me...I still have faith though, cause Robert Downey Jr. is the man...as long as he doesnt have to keep telling lame jokes

Loved the first trailer, Downey looks great. I can't wait for this. The ads are always the best part of the Super Bowl (coming from a huge football fan, too)...

Yeah, the ads are the best part of the Super Bowl. I watch some football, but I'm not one of the people that know all the team rosters and stats and all that.

I didn't especially like the trailer that ran before "Cloverfield". I don't know if I want to see it yet or not.

well, once again Marvel begins another campaign with a perfect

move to gurantee insane box office. hey, i'll see this movie no matter what

knowing cris evans or ben affleck can't ruin this superhero flick and i do

believe this movie will kick off the greatest year in comic book movies.

simply, because we may see the first marvel character since spiderman to be

done well, its been a loooooong losing streak at the hous of ideas

concerning their movie adaptations. Then we hopefully see the ressurection of

a character who, unlike a certain dc franchise character, never had any good

movies to look back on for hope it can work on the big screen. never has a

character been revived after a failed initial attempt and hulk will i

believe become the first to do so. and then obviously we have perhaps the

best comic book movie arriving with what will be one of the most emotional

experiences considering Heath's final grand performance. Hopefully it will

inspire DC to produce good adaptations of their characters, unlike how

marvel imploded with all their disasters. Overall, its not a coincendence

that th first important tv trailer starts on super sunday because it might

very well be a super year for comic book movies from both comic book giants,

dc and marvel:)

I really hope Iron Man does well at the box office, since I've been a huge fan of the character for years and the trailer does look promising. The thing is, Iron Man has never been a household name like Spider-Man or Batman, so we all know that it won't make as much money as those two franchises no matter how good it is.
I'm looking forward to The Dark Knight as well - I just don't understand how anyone can be looking forward to just one or the other, since they both appear to be comic book-based films that actually do the source material justice and are both being handled in a dignified manner.

I'd pay to see JT eat a repulsor blast.

What hollywood has missed so far about the characters that are ultra-rich 'mind supers' like Wayne, Stark, Doom, Richards is that they're all basically psychos. They're not ordinary guys who used to be in a boy band and go to the game on Friday. A true supergenius/wacko arrives at civilized decisions through the most roundabout and self-absorbed fashion. Applying so many normal standards to them and their interaction with others really detracts heavily from their appeal, to me.

These movies have to be marketed to a crowd though, so I'm not holding my breathe for an authentic supervillain.

All I can say is that this summer will be huge. It may not do the same number as last summer did, since there were a ton of sequals; but it will be a better summer for movies. Think about it for a sec. The list of movies this year is incredible! Dark Knight, Iron Man, Caspian, Speed Racer, X-Files, Hulk, Hellboy, Indy, 10,000 BC, and Wanted are just some of the many titles this summer, including Dragonball Z in August. I predict this will be a great summer for quality, unlike in recent years. Prior summers may have made more money, but there is more quality this year. Heck, the year ends with Star Trek and they are trying to release the new Dark Crystal movie this year.

can't wait for the ironman trailer. let's hope it's a great movie. and let's also hope the giants kick arse on the patriots. it's just a better movie/story/game when the underdog wins. go giants!

You're right. My friends have been on my case all night for not rooting for the underdog, especially since that's what I usually do. I was in a room full of Giants fans, having all the fun playing Devil's advocate. What an intense game! Especially that last quarter.

Loved the trailer, by the way. Product does have a point, but something tells me Faverau is not gonna go too far with the camp. The footage was awesome.

I wouldn't be anticipating Iron Man so much if it wasn't for Downey Jr. Starring one of my favorite actors, I have some hope. The trailer during the Super Bowl will either reinforce that hope or break it.

Go Giants!
