Favreau Talks Iron Man; New Poster Debuts
by Jeff Giles | February 25, 2008
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

With WonderCon 2008 in full swing over the weekend, news has been flying fast and furious regarding some of Hollywood's most geek-friendly films -- such as a certain Jon Favreau-directed film depicting a man in a flying, villain-whooping suit of armor. Back to Article

Iron man... just another reason why this is going to be another memorable summer at the movies.

i agree 100% kolli, i'm not even a comic nerd but hulk/batman/iron man looks to destroy last summer's action flicks, especially the crap sequels that were almost boring in my opinion. if any of these comes close to as being as entertaining as Transformers was...i'll be happy. i hope the general public GETS this movie and it doesn't sorta "flop" at the box office. not that i think it will but i'm not sure most people know who the h3ll Iron Man is. it has to overcome way more than Batman and the Hulk and from the trailers...i think it will. TDK still is above this though...

I was always worried about Mr.Elf/Zathura directing the Iron Man movie. I like Made and always felt this guy was just never gonna ever get close to making another decent movie but with the casting in Ironman and the CG looking alright I'm gonna give Ironman a chance.

As much as i'm looking forward to this movie, I'm more excited for The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight. I actually don't have high hopes for Iron Man.

I think it's a fair guess that all three of these films will be a lot more entertaining than Transformers, so fun at the movies this summer we shall have. :-)

They are going to premier the next trailer during Lost, huh. Sweet, I love Lost, looking forward to it even more now.

This will be a funnier movie than the dark knight, which will be dark, not to mention the fact that heath ledgers death will make it even more darker than what it was originally going to be. Like I said Iron Man will be a fun super hero movie, check it out and get on board because Stan Lee plans on making quite a bit more. I'm voting for Brad Pitt to play Captain America.

Brad Pitt to play Captain America, I surely hope that you are joking.

I'd hope that we could put the bar a little higher than Transformers. Transformers was a fun watch-once movie, but I wouldn't own it.

The bar should be at Batman Begins for all three movies. Fun and completely rewatchable, of course I wouldn't expect Iron Man and Hulk to be as dark.

Brad Pitt is way too skinny to play Captain America, unless they're planning on putting a muscle suit over the guy. You need a taller buffed out guy, who doesn't come off as a complete meat-head.

just for fun: captain america casting possibilities:

1. gerard butler (with an american accent): regulated in '300' where he also handled a shield pretty well.

2. thomas jane: 'punisher' was off, but that wasn't necessarily his fault. 'stander' and 'killshot' were little-seen but show that he's got some chops. plus, wasn't Cap blonde?

3. Aaron Eckhart: we'll see how ruthless he is come TDK, and two comic franchises from opposing universes (dc, marvel) is a lot, but he can act and just kind of looks like he would be a Captain America.

again, this is just for kicks, but it's something to do since there isn't a whole lot to speculate on in terms of 'iron man.'

So, who the hell is Iron Man fighting? I feel as though they haven't solidified the plot to this movie yet. I have seen through the trailers nothing but origin, him fighting a tank, and him flying in front of jet fighters.

What ia actually going to happen in this movie?
--------
F*** Captain America, that movie will be awful because he is only interesting when he is disillusioned, and they won't do that in a movie.

If you look on IMDB, they have Obadiah Stone(Iron Monger) listed (Jeff Bridges with no hair). Stone was the main business rival to Stark and after alot of nefarious dealings, was able to buy Stark Technology. This is when Stark relapses into alcoholism, turning into a homeless guy and gave his suit to Rhodes for him to take over indefinitely. When Stone took over, Tony had left some notes, etc. about the suit, and Stone used these bits to make his own suit, possibly to sell.

I highly doubt this will be the movie's exact plotline, but Favreau looks to be following the general storyline of Stone making the Iron Monger suit (the one Gwyneth is running away from in the trailer) after stealing Stark's Iron Armor technology.

dahluzz, the couchtomatoe is very impressed at your choices and

if i had to choose one of those three i would pick butler just because I

don't believe the guy to play Cap should have ever started in another comic

book movie unless he was a terrific actor(for example Tommy Lee Jones-

horrible as two-face but if ever wanted to be part of another comic

adaptation i wouldn't have problem because well did you guys see that "lost

valley of Ellah" movie it was pretty damned good.) still, overall thanks for

the suggestions for the very important decision of who will play the star

spangled avenger.

Meanwhile, damn but isn't Iron Man looking freakin awesome or

what? :) Like i said before, this will be the biggest, and perhaps best, year

in comic book movie adaptations ever. And as much as i am looking foward

most to seeing the dark knight... the competition, hulk & iron man, keep

getting better and better. damn, i wouldn't be total shocked if marvel

produces the best comic book movie again this year and this coming from a D.C

guy mind you..

Don't get me wrong, Ironman will be badass, and from reading the interviews with favreau I think there's a lot of stuff he's keeping tucked away until opening day. But The Dark Knight trailer owns right now.

...it's all... just part of the plan.
