Weekly Ketchup: Iron Man 3 Villain Officially Revealed

Summary

This week's Ketchup includes sequel news about Iron Man 3 and, surprisingly, Pauly Shore's In the Army Now, as well as new roles for Robert De Niro (twice), Anne Hathaway, Beyonce Knowles, Joaquin Phoenix, and Adam Sandler. And did we mention Pauly Shore? Really need to say it twice for it to sink in as a reality. Back to Article

In the Army Two? I've never seen the first, but when I see the names Pauly Shore and Andy Dick, I know it probably won't be worth watching.
A little confused by the voice cast of Epic, especially Beyonce and Johnny Knoxville of all people. This will definitely be an interesting future of films.

The plot of them re-enlisting just seems kinda stupid - not that the first film was any indicator of understated brilliance to begin with. They opened up an electronics store and two characters that mirrored Shore and Dick's characters wandered in front of it (it was next to a recruitment office) and the audience is left with the notion that the plot of the film just repeats itself essentially, with different leads.

I'm more frightened at what this might signal for the future however, like... Son-in-Law 2, Jury Duty 2 or god forbid, Bio-Dome 2.

Pauly Shore . . . I think I'd claw-out my eyes and ears if subjected to Pauly Shore long enough.

I thought you (THE FANS) were happy with The Amazing Spider-man; its a darker, grittier approach as opposed to the Sam Raimi masterpieces that everybody (except me) seemed to dislike even though they all earned-back . . . well Spiderman 3 grossed over $800 MILLION DOLLARS. FANS ARE NEVER HAPPY!

I don't get why anyone would want Spider-Man to be darker and grittier. He's Spider-Man!

For someone who comments so much on these here matters, you don't seem to notice anyone's opinions other than your own; since its conception the Spider-Man reboot has been regarded with complete disdain and an unnessacary diversion from the Raimi/Maguire formula.

Best news is Spike Jones and David O Russell getting new projects. Of course I have to think of the awful Siri commercials with Zooey (does she really not know how to cook tomato soup herself?), and especially John Malkovich - alone with his phone. The concept is kinda priceless, and sadly inevitable.

What's the point of Marvel lying about Mandarin? You know you'll have to tell the truth eventually. Do you think anyone was really fooled?

Let me just sweep up all the rotten news with a single question - how exactly are Peter Berg, Catherine Hardwicke and Adam Shankman still getting films greenlit? I don't want to ban them forever, just let them cool off a bit, dwell on their recent failures, prioritize. Even Peter Segal, whose film's make money I guess, does nothing except stamp his projects with "don't bother" for discerning viewers (the few and proud among us). And there it is. The answer. In the ugly mugs of Pauly Shore and Andy Dick. Why do they always find these enablers with so much disposable income. Anyone care to name the last hit from either of them (or ever, in the case of Dick). I feel like Raoul Duke in a Vegas bar - "someone's giving booze to these goddamn creatures". It's impossible to walk in this muck, no footing at all.

One last thing - my suggestion to cast Kirsten Dunst for the role of Deborah Harry is so infinitely better than Akerman, that I don't even feel arrogant about pointing it out. This is a town full of talented tongues.

Spike Jonze is always good news as far as I am concerned.
And I think they keep expecting Catherine Hardwicke to make another "Thirteen"... which was mediocre, I think, at best. As for Peter Berg, I think he deserves a chance to prove he is not some "Michael Bay Jr." Because the world does not need another Michael Bay.
And yes, Kirsten Dunst would have been a far better choice over Malin Akerman.

Hardwicke seems like the most promising of the bunch, but she needs to figure out what to do besides for-hire hackwork (Red Riding Hood, Twilight). It's possible she just doesn't have it. Part of the problem is, like with Berg, they get new gigs before their latest movies prove to be bombs. You see that with screenwriters too. It seems it would be cheaper to be more prudent, rather than throwing several million dollars away on aborted pre-productions every year.

Spike Jonze news is awesome, so is Iron Man 3. The Avengers reignited my interest in the character after the severely lackluster Iron Man 2.

Wahlberg is fairly one note as a dramatic actor. He has had some successes like Boogie Nights, The Fighter, and The Departed, but he was not what made those films great, it was the characters around him that did. Lone Survivor is an incredible true story that needs a great film based on it. Not sure Berg is the man to direct or if Wahlberg is the guy to play Marcus Luttrell (who, if Berg sticks to what really happened, would be the primary character in the movie, and much of the middle portion would be a one man show). I hate Berg's shakey cam direction, which just makes me annoyed and takes me out of the film instead of making the things more intense or visceral, and Wahlberg has yet to prove he can be a gripping, emotional actor without people to play off of, as well as with little words (since he would be alone for a large chunk of the movie, or unable to properly communicate with those around him).

Nice Stone Temple Pilots reference in the Hardwicke article, Greg! That is as far as my interest goes in that film.

The De Niro vs. Stallone flick simultaneously sounds atrocious and awesome. The director makes me think that the "comedy" here will be of the people getting kicked in the crotch variety, instead of truly clever jokes and solid one liners.

I do not see In the Army Again getting a wide release; it just seems ridiculous. How many people in their mid-teens to early twenties even know who Pauly Shore is?

Wahlberg didn't show the stand-alone promise in Shooter or Contraband, much less Max Payne or The Happening. Good directors are also the thread between his successes. That being said, Grudge Match could work. I don't hate on Stallone given his turns in Copland or even his last Rocky film. But shouldn't they go with an 'old guy' director too, maybe Barry Levinson, Paul Mazursky, Walter Hill would be awesome. A missed opportunity, I think.

I agree that Wahlberg is put to better use when he has a great director guiding him, but he has never been the main draw to a movie for me, so his casting in Lone Survivor (along with Berg as director) just makes me think that the movie will be just another missed opportunity. If Walter Hill was directing Grudge Match, my interest would jump ten-fold!

Problem is he always plays Wahlberg. It worked in The Other Guys and Departed because he has others picking up the slack. When he headlines, eh....

00 - I really enjoyed IM 1 & 2. Well, 1 more-so than 2, but both were fun and, imo, the best of what Marvel had done. Yes, better than Avengers (don't shoot me). Hopefully Black can keep up the quality and make another enjoyable movie.
01 - Malkovich and Adaptation are both masterpieces. Wild Things was a misfire but hopefully Spike can bounce back - the premise is certainly interesting.
02 - Whatever.
03 - Musical. Next.
04 - I'm so tired of DeNiro playing a fucking caricature of his most popular personas. It's so sad to see the man that starred in classics put his name to pieces of shit like this.
05 - Oh, how I hate that face.
06 - Another teen movie. Pass.
07 - Oh god, this week sucks.
08 - Ugh. Fucking trainwreck.
09 - No.

What an absolutely shitty week for movie news.

You must have some serious beef with The Avengers if you're of the opinion that Iron Man 2 is a better movie?! To me that's like saying Batman & Robin is better than The Dark Knight!

No, I enjoyed Avengers, but the plot was absolutely horrid. Iron Man 2 had a better story, and while I realize story isn't the most important thing for people wanting to see Hulk punch Thor, I'm not a Marvel comics fan so it's what I'm looking for first and foremost.

The involvement of Sandler regulars in Three Mississippi would only happen if Sandler attains creative control over the movie, which isn't gonna happen as Ferrell and McKay are the producers.

I was thinking because it's not a done deal yet, but then again there have been plenty of other stories that were still in negotiation, so that's a good point.

Love In The Army Now and Jury Duty (and he is awesome in A Goofy Movie!) but what actually made me appreciate him was his independently made film Pauly Shore Is Dead. Low budget, but tons of great celebrity cameos and he just rips on himself and what a joke he is now the whole movie. If you like Pauly Shore you will love it and if you hate him you might like it even more.

I know that Sucker Punch was a hit but a disappointment at the box office last year, but I don't know if Emily Browning should be in a romantic comedy. Sometimes romantic comedies may be frustrating to critics, but I think they should lay low on the hate already.

I like Pauly Shore. Love him or hate him, he deserves a big comeback. I haven't seen him in all of his 90's movies, but I think it's a good chance to make the audience laugh again.

Battleship was a mess. And now Three Mississippi! I hope Adam Sandler could be doing well when That's My Boy comes out in 2 weeks. I know Three Mississippi was a rotten idea, but hopefully Adam could bring back a couple of cast members from Grown-Ups or so.

With or without Black Widow, I hope Iron Man 3 could be better than Iron Man 2 next year.

I'm a big fan of Ice Age, and so Epic could be a better success than Robots. Wait till next year. Congrats, lady B!

De Niro vs Stallone in a boxing ring together seems a bit of a mismatch, seeing as Stallone's all ripped like a beast and old Bobby looks like he's just had a stroke.

I'm super hopeful Iron Man 3 is gonna be badass, Ben Kingsley's gonna be the villain to end all villains!

Kills me all the hate spiderman is getting. Pardon me if the same people who inevitably bought The Amazing Spiderman , the Spectacular Spiderman, Peter Parker Spiderman and Ultimate Spiderman on a weekly basis calling a new take on the character unnecessary strikes me as ironic. To me good movies are never unnecessary. And Amazing Spiderman looks like it fixes a lot of stuff wrong with Raimis Spiderman. Less camp, lots of angst, better casting IMO, and Spiderman actually looks to have a wiseass sense of humor something that McGuire never seemed capable of conveying. Seems like people are invested in this movie failing for some reason. I've been a Spidey fan pretty much all my life, yes I had the underoo's as a kid and the new movie looks like Spiderman to me.

I'm moreso frustrated with the reboot because it is really just a ploy by Fox to keep the rights to Spider-man instead of them defaulting back to Marvel Studios. I do feel that this Spider-man will be superior over the Raimi films, however. After watching Spider-man 1 after several years it did not age well AT ALL. That, or I was just too young to remember it well enough.

If it's a good film then the hate will go away, and from what I've seen in the trailers it looks awesome. But early on in it's production, the choice of director, the rumours it was gonna be aimed at fans of the Twilight movies pointed towards The Amazing Spider-Man being a bag of shite pointless reboot.
