Watch the Super Bowl Movie Ads!

Looks like it's stark days ahead for Iron Man, whose third film promises more darkness and more property destruction. Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role with director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). Iron Man 3 is in theaters May 3.

Fast Five drew a Certified Fresh rating in 2011, so of course the producers are going back to the well. (We contend the $200 million box office had nothing to do with it.) See everybody -- and we do mean everybody -- return to the series in The Fast and Furious 6 on May 24.

It may be called The Lone Ranger, but we all know this is Tonto's show. Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp, along with Armie Hammer as the titular character, are collaborating on the adaptation of one of America's most enduring yarns. See it in theaters July 3.

If Brad Pitt's involved, then it's proof-positive that zombies have finally lurched their way into blockbuster status. This Marc Forster-helmed project has been plagued with reshoots, not to mention it largely eschews the book's episodic framing device. But still: Brad Pitt! Zombies! World War Z is out June 21.

Director Sam Raimi is branching out with Oz: The Great and Powerful, an earnest parable about how the Wizard of Oz came to be. James Franco stars as the title character, alongside Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, and Rachel Weisz. Take the trip down the yellow brick road on March 8.

More from Dwayne Johnson? In Snitch, he stars as a father who goes undercover for the DEA to release his son imprisoned after a drug deal setup. How far can one man go? Find out February 22.

What did you think of the Super Bowl commercials this year?

The World War Z spot has me worried. The music seems to be doing all of the heavy lifting, while the images just seem strangely flat. I smell another Quantum of Solace.

WWZ wasn't a bad book, wasn't a good one either. It was all mini-stories that kind of twisted together.

So, you suspect World War Z will be a Bond film that is still better than the last three horrible pieces of crap that came out of the Brosnan era? Maybe you should get your nose checked.

Running zombies? I read world war z they were very traditional zombies not 28 days later rage zombies typical Hollywood can't do anything original but also can't make a faithful adaptation *face palm*.

This is the most original zombie depiction I have seen. Instead of shambling individuals, they are a horde that moves without concern for self-preservation and personal space. After Katrina, the 2004 tsunami, Fukushima, and Sandy, how appropriate it is to portray zombies as an unstoppable torrent?

This Mick Travis guy kind of makes me laugh. He says he's seen over 100K movies. That's about 20 years worth of viewing. Factor in work and sleep, and I find that claim quite suspicious, unless he's about 70 and that's all he ever did with his free time. However, given his profile pic, I'm doubting he's an old timer. Such a strange thing to lie about.

So how old are you? You do realize 100K movies is roughly 20 years of viewing time, right?

It just sounds like a made up claim. How do you even know you've watched 100K? Do you have a list or count somewhere? It seems like quite an exaggeration that you pulled out of your ass to defend your stance on Memento. Even professional film critics have not watched that many.

Feb 4 - 07:42 PM

Janson Jinnistan

Janson Jinnistan

If you watched 6 films a day (12 hours approx), it would take 45 years to reach 100,000.

I've seen enough movies to have long ago given up any attempt of counting how many movies I've seen. I own a couple thousand though.

That's another ridiculous claim. 80% of films worldwide during that time frame, or just US? The AFI catalog only has around 60K films and that includes stuff that would be really hard to find, even in today's market. As Janson pointed out, watching movies would basically had to have been your full time job since you were a kid. I don't care if you hated Momento, but when I see these kinds of ridiculous claims, I just don't understand it. I'm not a fan of hyperbole, I guess.

"a bunch of overpaid barbarians who make 100 times more money than teachers and educators." lol after reading these comments I was forced to register and add my two cents. I feel sorry for everyone who just quickly bashed this kid Mick Travis, he's got a great point and all of you who didnt take the time to think about what he actually said are the unfortunate americanized "jersey shore" babies. You guys were more worried about punking this kid as he's trying to make a decent logical point. What america produces these days is extremely horrific. maybe we should be as a nation worrying more about education than the garbage Hollywood copies and recycles & paying some asshole who has a high school mentality $400 mil to throw a ball. the majority of great "hollywood movies" anyways are all dumbed down recreations of cinema from around the world such as The Departed... Stop worrying about nonsense and think abouut what does matter you fat uneducated in the dark americanized disapointments.

Feb 5 - 01:22 PM

Janson Jinnistan

Janson Jinnistan

What's this crap? Who, exactly, makes 400 million playing to throw a ball? The top quarterback (Peyton Manning) makes 17 million a year. And Tom Cruise makes an average of 65 million a year. Donald Trump (that useless duck) earns 60 million a year. And guess what, Kim Kardashian is worth 40 million. You want to tax the shit out of these folks, I'm all for it. But, you want to hate on sports players? You are aware that over half of the income in sports revenue goes to the team owners, right? Anyone want to question the earnings of Dan Snyder, Robert Kraft, Rooney Mara's families or Jerry Jones? But, sure, let's hate on those actually doing the work on the field. Morons.

Feb 5 - 02:17 PM

Dick Travis

Work? Uh, they are playing a GAME. That is not WORK. It also pisses me off when people refer to football players as "heroes." War veterans are heroes, not football players.

Feb 5 - 03:03 PM

Bigbrother

Big Brother

Could you do it Mick? I'd love to see that. I'm betting half the people criticizing the NFL players would be crippled attempting the workouts most of these guys put themselves through much less actually trying to play the games. I agree with you that they're probably overpaid, but it's supply and demand and the players unions at work. Don't disagree with you at all about the heroes thing. Though I don't believe the military has a monopoly on heroes. I think Kurt Warner, Charles Tillman and Jason Witten to name a few meet the definition of heroes, not for what they do on the football field, but what they've taken their celebrity and money and done with it.

Feb 5 - 03:23 PM

Janson Jinnistan

Janson Jinnistan

We're on a site that considers Batman and Iron Man as "heroes", so let's inject some sanity into the equation for a moment. I'm more of a casual sports fan. I like an exciting game of football or basketball occasionally, and I'm not about to feel guilty for that. So we can argue over the financial priority that people (Americans?) put into spending on sports, but as long as that money is being spent, I fully support players getting their fair share, because they're the ones making it exciting to watch. Again, if you want to tax these billionaire franchise owners to pay for better public education, I'll support that wholly. But whether we're talking about Jackie Robinson, Jessie Owens, Ted Williams, Joe Namath, Wilma Rupolph, Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar...these are every bit as much "heroes" as, say, JJ Abrams or Joss Whedon. And, technically, Hitler was a war veteran (of WWI), so obviously these things are conditional. It's about strength of character and perseverance.

When an athlete is referred to as a hero they are typically saying it as in his play was heroic to his team. Although I do agree that soldiers are real heroes, athletes a lot of the times are too; although no to the extent of soldiers. A good portion of athletes take their very fortunate circumstance and use it to help others, very similar to some one like Batman, who was referenced above. In that respect they are heroes because they are using their wealth and fame to help others who are less fortunate. I don't know about you, but that's pretty heroic to me.

What about when a Soldier is a Rapist or child molester like in Black Hawk Down. Ewan McGreggor's character had to be completely re-named and changed because people found that the actual man was far to offensive to the idea of the Heroic Soldier....though everything McGreggor did in the film was what the real man did apparently. What about when this happens?

This post just reminds me the fact that smart people tend to enjoy more films than others.

If they are smart, they can enjoy everything from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter to The Master (as far as 2012 go) and then elaborate on why they like them. The average Youtube commenter will just go "hey guys luk at dis dumb movie it has exploshuns must be Michel Bay shit lolololol no thx" and then not watch a 'prestige' film and yet go "uh yeah dis artsy fartsy from director with Oscar so it is the best film".

I'd rather read a well-written and well-researched article on how Battleship is a good action film about the importance of communication, then to read another comment by a random internet comment about the film was "horseshit" or something without elaboration.
