It's nowhere NEAR as bad as they say -- how could it be?

Recognized as one of the worst movies of all time. And it is!! But hilarious (in a head-scratching way) because of how bad it is.

There is so much talent involved in this movie, what happened? The cast and crew have a combined lifetime 61 Oscar nominations and 16 wins. How could this not be a better movie? It is well produced, the cinematography and costumes are fine and well done. The main flaws are the poorly written screenplay, the paper thin plot and the lack of spark from the main stars. It's not without some funny moments, but they are too scarce. The humor wears thin in less than an hour and it becomes a challenge to stay interested in the plot. The lovely Isabelle Adjani is wasted. Charles Grodin does score in supporting role and outshines the rest of the cast.

(1987 Director: Elaine May) Funny tale of two semi-talented young men who succumb to travel to the Middle East in order to reach for fame (after failing miserably in U.S.) Co-stars severa; of my favorites, including Carol Kane, Charles Grodin,

Absolutely the best movie! If you can't laugh at this movie, you need to learn how to laugh! AMAZING!

The single worst desert comedy ever made, Ishtar tells the story of a roving band of once good comedians cracking sad jokes in a desert, only it is truly awful. Perhaps it's the Heaven's Gate of desert movies.

Beatty singing the intro to "Little Darlin'" is undoubtedly one of the greatest moments ever committed to film. All the musical numbers are funny, and it's clear Hoffman and Beatty are having fun throughout.

"Most guys would be ashamed! But not you... you'd rather have nothing, then settle for anything less."
This movie is classic. Paul Williams' lyrics for the songs that they write are so bad, they're good. Those who thought this was the worst movie, so obviously didn't get it.

The other people who reviewed this are probably complete idiots who don't understand the humor and probably haven't even seen this movie, or not seen it all the way through. This movie has a reputation for being real bad but it's actually a great film if you have half a mind to understand the jokes.
This is a great comedy full of low-key humor. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

Supposedly when it was made, this movie lost more money than any other in history. This fact aside. Id have to say this is one of the best movies ever made, although you have to see it a few times to really catch on. An unsung classic of 1980s cinema. I suggest it to anyone if you can actually find a copy.

I thought this was a vain effort, and not impressive. The stars were not at all "musically inclined", and were absolutely Horrible!

Truly one of the worst films ever made. It has to be seen to be believed on how bad this film truly is. I give it one star because it is so famous in its awfulness.

Better than you've heard indeed. Although loaded with your typical and somewhat pathetic 1980's comedic stereotypes, Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman are a surprisingly good coupling. The two seem to be off script and riffing off each other much off the time and the result is quite a few extemporaneous and very funny sequences. These moments are what really make the movie...let go of your grandiose expectations and enjoy!

I laughed from beginning to end. It helped that I was dating a song writer at the time!

This is a very funny film , Hoffman and Beatty do some "out there" work on this "how much weed can we smoke" romp, through a stella goof off fest.I saw this when it came out , one of four people in my town...but it was a small town.I think all the uptight white folks at the time thought they were going to see some sort of Hollywood ice-cream sundae... but instead got a Moroccan hash cookie.

Who would have thought a comedy with Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty would suck this bad? None of the jokes are funny and it's embarassing to see these two in the movie.
