In a business starved for original ideas, in a summer of sloppy remakes, The Italian Job sets a kind of benchmark for recycling.

The Italian Job has a decent enough heart, and, thanks to Seth Green and Mos Def, some funny moments. It's just not racing with enough adrenaline.

Memo to the studio honcho holding remake rights to Easy Rider: Don't take any calls from Mark Wahlberg.

. . . a film designed for dispassionate enjoyment, a summer distraction that doesn't quite leave you feeling like you were thieved of your nine bucks but also feels like a shallow return on your investment.

... workmanlike heist flick with some funny lines and some good (if brief) chases ...

Like Norton's unbelievably dull villain, the film has about as much imagination as a Mini has trunk space.

Although some will predictably succumb to Gray's overly kinetic and slick-looking heist caper, this stylized action-packed robbers flick fails to steal anything worth value within this repetitive genre.

Itresembles a film made up on the fly. The cast, too, are strictly cut from comic books. Don't expect any unconventional endings either.

Formulaic, forgettable remake whose resemblance to a video-game is surely not coincidental. Edward Norton, Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron deliver the most bland, nondescript, uninteresting performance of their careers. You've seen it all in the trailer

Screenwriting couple Donna and Wayne Powers have managed to downgrade what was only a half-decent 1969 crime flick to begin with.

Wahlberg is largely forgettable, and his would-be romance with Theron is sparkless and perfunctory.

Watching The Italian Job in a theater makes you long for a fast-forward button -- to skip past 90 eyeball-glazing minutes of generic caper plotting and cut to the chase, as it were.

A lazy and in-name-only remake of 1969's G-rated Michael Caine heist pic.

Wide-open absurdity would've helped; instead, there's a clotting of musical interludes and a general air of stoic grit.

A tricked-out remake of a heist flick that was already flat and formulaic in 1969.

...shamelessly prefabricated and so thoroughly lacking in any flavor or nutritional value, it's sort of like a McDonald's cheeseburger, only with car chases.

Cette production estivale est divertissante l'espace d'un instant si l'on ne cherche pas à en trouver les moindres défauts.
