RT on DVD and Blu-Ray: Jack Reacher, Mama, and Upstream Color

Summary

We've got some decent choices on home video this week, including an indie that opened in theaters just a month ago and has earned widespread acclaim. We've also got three big genre titles -- a Tom Cruise mystery, a Jessica Chastain ghost story, and a Nicholas Sparks adaptation -- to help add some variety. Click through for the full list! Jack Reacher isn't lame..it's just an average thriller starring Tom Cruise...

I really wanna see Upstream Color, so that is a definite rental for me. I want to see Mama as well, and that "notoriously bad" movie, Foodfight sounds intriguing, based on that description. I just hope it's funny.

Speaking of notoriously bad movies, does anyone know when Dario Argento's Dracula 3D is getting a blu-ray release???

"Dracula 3D" is on disc in some foreign markets. From what I hear, it's good for a laugh. And I'm a long term Argento fan, but he hasn't made a good movie in 20 years.

I'm an Argento fan as well. And I know what's it all about, and I'm hoping to laugh. I'm a bit of a bad movie fanatic. Is it available in Canada? Canada is the same region as US.

"Canada is in the same region as US" duh! I honestly didn't understand the hype for "Suspiria" because it was silly!

I will admit that statement was retarded. I have a tendency to state the obvious. Don't judge me.

I can't even find out if the DVDs are legitimate or boots, only that there are DVDs available in some markets. Try a torrent, if you're hard up.

Suspiria has not aged well. Argento's style was never my bag, but I'm willing to admit I reaped the rewards of his influence in many movies I love.

Actually, the style of "Suspiria" was pretty much the same as most other European horror films! As well, the European version is much longer than the American dubbed version!

"Suspiria" has aged well enough to still make Eli Roth look like Herschell Gordon Lewis by comparison.

I respect it, but I don't necessarily like it. Too surreal for me. I'll take Rosemary's Baby or The Changeling for my '70s horror. BUT I do see (I think) the brilliance behind it and have watched it a few times. I have revisited it in attempts to see what I think I'm missing but I still walk away not really liking it. Another one along the same line, evoking a similar shame in not liking it is American Psycho. I just don't appreciate it like most, but I keep watching it every couple of years thinking my opinion will change and I will see the light.

Any of you guys or gals have a cult movie that you don't like?

"Upstream Color" is not On Demand right now, and this makes me angry. I'll have to do what it takes. I wanna see "Mama" too, and, why not, throw in the kvetchin' cat.

Yeah I would love to see The Rabbi's Cat. Me and the Kids loved A Cat in Paris. Animated films about cats are fantastic.

I hope Foodfight! will do what Monsters Inc. 3D failed to do-namely, beat Tom Cruise to the pulp!!!

Jack Reacher was okay, not that much of a Tom Cruise movie. But I'll rent the movie.

Save Haven is a buy for me because still I don't read any more of those hateful critics harassing every Nicholas Sparks movie. Can't they just leave the dramas alone for pete's sake.

Mama is a rent for me, but I still love Jessica Chastain.

REACHER just doesn't look very interesting. If UPSTREAM is anything like PRIMER, I'm gonna hate it. Same with SAFE HAVEN and other Nicholas Sparks movies, but I'm intrigued by this "3rd act plot twist". If it's bad enough to make this one worse than its predecessors, it's gonna be a riot. But first, I'm gonna go with MAMA (non-gory Horror all the way!).

Bigbrother .

If you liked Shooter with Mark Wahlberg, you're like Jack Reacher. they're similar, but Reacher is better because Cruise is more charismatic in the role. A decently entertaining movie that occasionally reaches beyond it's action thriller roots into Die Hard/Bourne realms, but not consistently so.

Yeah Reacher was an interesting movie through most of it. It has one of the best car chases ever put in a movie, worth the rental alone.

Stop everything you're doing and watch Die Hard. It's a great action thriller. Great villain. Great hero. Great mix of comic relief and violence. Great movie.

Being a fan of old-school-gore-free horror (I dont mind gore-infested horror either, as long as it is good - which is rare these days ), I will be checking out "Mama". Upstream Color seems tremendously pretentious, but I'm still somewhat interested, I'll watch Primer first. If it ends up not being my cup of tea, I'll pass on UC. The Rabbi's Cat looks fun, maybe I'll have a look at it as well. I'm skipping on all the rest.
