Drawing Comparisons to The Hobbit?

I understand that The Hobbit and this movie are both fantasy, but I'm just finding the comparisons unnecessary.

The Hobbit was ten times better than this piece of shit will ever be, I mean seriously, there wasn't enough screen time or battle with giants, and story is incredibly cliched, I love Bryan Singer, but he should left this project alone XD

I believe this movie tried to ride the success of the genre The Hobbit falls into, as though we'll take and fantasy-action movie they give us. Oh and Bill Shannon, you will be disappointed if you see this film with those expectations.

those cgi giants look atrocious. This thing will be nowhere near the hobbit.

I don't think source material has anything to do with it, it comes from the fact that theyre the 2 most recent examples of massive CGI adventure films

Perhaps the filming STYLE apes Peter Jackson's Hobbit? I don't know. I haven't seen Jack, and I probably never will if the trailers are any reflection of movie's quality.

I think he finds the comparisons unnecessary because they are fairly different stories.

I liked The Hobbit, but comparisons are fine as long as people are perceptive about it. Todd McCarthy said Jack the Giant Slayer was far better than The Hobbit, but I'll have to see the film to believe it.

I said earlier that these were both fantasy movies. I'm going to modify that statement and say that these stories are slightly different types of fantasy stories. Sure both were originally intended for children, but the plots are too different for me to draw any comparisons. I can also see where comparisons could be made in that both movies are expanding upon the original source materials. However, The Hobbit was originally a fantasy adventure. Jack and the beanstalk was originally a short English folktale that eventually became a popular children's story around the world (much like The Hobbit). However, until I saw McCarthy's review, the thought of comparing this film to The Hobbit had never crossed my mind. Fairy tales and fantasy novels are different animals, and thus should not be too heavily compared, but this is just all my opinion.

Aye, and the original idea of The Hobbit novel is more of a fantasy version of Stand By Me/The Body (even though Body is newer), one of those grow up and get to know life and death in the outside world type stories.
