Summary

"It is not actually a classic fairy tale, it's just a fairy-tale-like story that's based on icons from a fairy tale." Back to Article

Singer is so optimistic that it's going to be huge hit that he's already planned for a sequel without waiting how this one turns out first! I heard something like this done before on such movies as Battlefield Earth, The Golden Compass and Jack Carter- look how those movies turned out!

John Carter right? and I would love to see that sequel. Especially if it was marketed correctly.

I never anticipate a sequel to a movie that hasn't been released. I'm not sure why a director would assume I would, either.

Matrix, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean all had sequels planned before the release of the first film and looked how those turned out. Your point?

Granted, I don't think Jack the Giant Slayer will kickstart a new franchise. The reason I'm interested in it is because of Bryan Singer, but the director alone isn't going to convince the general audience to show up, not when the trailers have been pretty bland. It'll probably get crushed by Oz: The Great and Powerful.

The only one I agree on were the "Harry Potter" films since they were already successful books, but you're incorrect about "Matrix" and "Pirates Of The Caribbean" movies for a sequel weren't planned until after they were huge financial hits!

Just look at the ending for Matrix. It was obvious that they were setting things up for a sequel. As for Pirates, why do you think they added the sub-title The Curse of the Black Pearl? Because even before the release of the first film they were hoping to turn it into a franchise. And like the Matrix they ended the film in a way to make it easy to proceed with sequels.

But if you want more examples, there's Lord of the Rings as big brother mentioned, Chronicles of Narnia, Twilight, and practically every succesful superhero movie.
