Based on the MTV show of the same name, creators and coproducers Jeff Tremaine, Johnny Knoxville, and Spike Jonze stretch their surprisingly successful concept into a feature-length film. Watch cast regulars Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Bam Margera, Dave England, Ryan Dunn, Jason "Wee Man" Acuna, Preston Lacy, Ehren McGehey, and Brandon Dicamillo as they perform a series of ridiculously dangerous and dangerously stupid stunts. Entering a rental car in a crash-up derby, snorting wasabi, eating a urine-soaked snow-cone, self-inflicting paper cuts, and using a store's display toilet are just a few of the increasingly obscene antics that unfurl at a relentless pace. A large portion of the footage finds the pranksters in Japan, dressing up in outlandish outfits and wreaking havoc on the unsuspecting locals. Whether or not this is a hysterical romp or a waste of eighty minutes is for the viewer to decide, but the fact can't be argued, JACKASS: THE MOVIE is slapstick entertainment for the 21st century, incorporating the modern world's fascination with reality television and obsession with disaster into a raucous, electrifying spectacle. Reviews for Jackass: The Movie
I left the theater with a queasy feeling in my stomach and a sympathetic ache in all my orifices.
Like a documentary version of Fight Club, shorn of social insight, intellectual pretension and cinematic interest.
A mix of hilarious stunts and idiotic pranks that still doesn't compare to what some of the cast members have done in other videos.
For every minute of whimsical diversion such as the crew dancing through the streets of Japan dressed as panda bears, there is another equal dose of something so foul as to offset the laughter with a painful groan
So what's all the fuss about? If people want to staple paper to their inner thighs, let them. The question is whether you're prepared to pay to watch them do it.
Too often, the viewer isn't reacting to humor so much as they are wincing back in repugnance.
For fans of MTV's now defunct "Jackass" series, the best thing that can be said about Jackass: The Movie is that it offers more of the same but with an NC-17 twist.
Honestly, where's the comedy in watching a semi-conscious and bleeding Knoxville wondering out loud if he has a concussion?
To call it performance art, one would first have to submit to the idea that it is art, which it clearly isn't. (Unrated)
To say that this vapid vehicle is downright doltish and uneventful is just as obvious as telling a country skunk that he has severe body odor.
Like being trapped at a perpetual frat party...How can something so gross be so boring?
An unencouraging threefold expansion on the former MTV series, accompanying the stunt-hungry dimwits in a random series of collected gags, pranks, pratfalls, dares, injuries, etc.
Possibly the most irresponsible picture ever released by a major film studio.
