What is the one image you remember from reading Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre? Got it? Well, it's missing from this latest adaptation.
Honestly, if I hadn't already read the book, I would have been terribly confused. This movie, though well acted and beautifully rendered, was flat, too restrained and mostly a bare bones treatment of what is a complicated story. The relationship between Jane and Rochester takes time, but the film was so rushed that you barely got time to settle in! Plus, Blanche wasn't much of a threat, unlike in the book where she is. I give it a C-
