Spielberg works self-effacingly, with subtly correct camera placement and meticulous editing. He twists our guts with false alarms, giving us the real thing with heart-stopping suddenness.
I avoided this movie for several years because I thought it was a "Sheep-Movie" -- one that everyone flocked to, but when I finally saw it when it was re-released I was blown away. What a great piece of cinema and one that doesn't get all the credit it deserves because it was such a blockbuster.
This movie was a perfect movie for Spielberg because he made it before he started over-using a lot of his tricks and soon to be bad habits.
