This Can't Be the Plot Synopsis for "Jaws 5," Can It?
by Scott Weinberg | February 14, 2007
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

I'll advise you to take this whole story with a few grains of salt, but let's just dive right in: There just might be a direct-to-video "Jaws" sequel on the way -- and if it's boasting the same plot divulged over at Filmrot.com, then we may be in for a flick on par with "Jaws: The Revenge." well, let's see there's another Goonies, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Die Hard, Gremlins on the way so this doesn't really surprise me.

If they're gonna try and bank on this and other way-past-their-prime franchises, why doesn't Universal give us a sequel that will ACTUALLY matter, such as a sequel to "Serenity"?

Come on guys, if you did your research and learned how to advertise a movie properly (and released it BEFORE Star Wars Episode 3), then Serenity may have actually succeeded. Oh, and not have given it the piss poor DVD box cover it has.

I thought that "The Revenge" was way better than Jaws 3-D. Anyways, the Jaws series was the pinnacle of the "giant-versions-of-animals eating people" genre.

Come on how many crazy ass sharks are their? Especially way up north in Amity. Do they have some poison in the water or somehting to screw with the sharks brains. The Brody kid shows up and theirs a man eating shark again. If i was one of the villagers i'd through the guy to the shark to have the whole thing over with. They should have global warming make the sharks hostile now that would be interesting. haha.

AWW YEAH!

Jaws can team up with the Brody Boys, and solve mysteries. Then they can develop a band, and go on tour! The direct-to-video movie will most likely turn into a 15-part mini series. Oh I can see it now...

this idea isnt very creative
instead of this idea, i've got an idea for a shark movie..picture this..there is a research facility out in the ocean studying sharks and especially their brains in an attempt to find a cure for genetic cerebral disorders, like oh i don't know, alzheimer's. the scientists mutate the sharks to make them smarter to harvest more brain matter to expedite the cure. insert some cookie cutter characters played by B-list actors, and the sharks get loose!! throw in alot of cheesy gore, bad dialogue, and some unnecessary nudity. now get a hack director to take on the project. i think my idea for a shark movie makes more sense that
Jaws 5 - The Yawn

what do you all think of my shark movie idea? should i call the No-Talent Talent Agency and hire an agent for script writing projects?

man hollywood, becoming more and more disappointing. i put more thought into nuking a bowl of Campbell's (c) Chicken Noodle Soup than most of these execs seems to be doing..what a shame.

What if they made Jaws 5 into a coming of age story where the grandson of Brody finds a talking great white and they become secret best friends. Watching movies on the dock and having picnics. Then a bad shark comes and kills people and the good shark tries to find the bad one. Than the villagers find and detain the good shark thinking it's the bad one and the boy tries to convince everyone he's good. Then the boy let's loose the good shark and the shark kills the bad one before everyone's eyes. The shark becomes a hero and the city has a ticker tape parade with him riding on an inflatable pool. The mayor then gives him the keys to the city. The end.

So true...I've never understood how both Fox and Universal screwed up the marketing for Firefly and Serenity so badly. The verse 'failed' because it was never given a real chance to fly. If they can make sequels to crap like Big Momma's House and Garfield, why not a franchise that actually has a fanbase?

It doesn't surprise me that they'd make another Jaws though. I have to confess I'm much angrier that they're trying to make a Goonies 2. Then again, oddly enough I could see another Gremlins flick working....don't know why (I wish these past their prime franchises would end too), but out of all these remakes and quadruple dips, Gremlins kinda seems cool to me.

There's maybe, like, ONE person on this whole website who'll get this reference (and admit to being old enough to know what I'm referring to), but comedian Richard Jeni did a stand-up routine in the late 80's covering the Jaws series; his basic premise was that if this [Brody] family maybe didn't. go. in. the. water., it would *marginally* reduce the shark's ability to bloodily mangle them. It was funny stuff, and says just about all I think needs to be said on this franchise.

This is about as good a place as any insert my favorite deadly-shark-on-the-loose movie quote of all time:

"We scientifically increased [the deadly sharks'] brain mass. *AS A SIDE EFFECT* they got smarter" (emphasis added).
--The unrealistically hot-chick scientist explaining to expendable crew member why the deadly shark is now deadlier in Renny Harlin's DEEP BLUE SEA

I wouldn't mind a new "Jaws" movies. After years of rip-offs, many direct-to-video, it might be something fun if they can come up with an interesting story. The first movie was good because the people held our interest, not because of the shark itself. It was the horror of the peoples' experience. The series forgot this and became sillier and "The Revenge" was utterly ridiculous. It's not that the shark followed Mrs. Brody many miles away from Amity, but that the movie had not one credible moment in the movie. Michael Caine coming up from the water dry? Mrs. Brody ramming the shark with the boat near the end, as it stands on its tail?
