Consensus: Anchored by dazzling performances from Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Renée Zellweger, as well as Cameron Crowe's tender direction, Jerry Maguire meshes romance and sports with panache.

Tom Cruise plays Jerry Maguire, a slick sports agent who realizes that he hates how he is living his life and encourages his fellow employees to get back to the important basics: people, loyalty, and fairness. Unfortunately, Maguire's new moral compass costs him his job, and he is left to start his business anew with one work ally, agency accountant Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger), and his least important client, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding, Jr.). Maguire embarks on a journey of personal growth that forces him to reevaluate his life choices and ultimately leads him to both friendship and love. Like his earlier films, SAY ANYTHING and SINGLES, this award-winning Cameron Crowe film features snappy dialogue, comic relief, and the occasional tear-jerking moment. Stellar performances are turned in from Cruise, Zellweger, and Gooding, Jr., as well as supporting cast members Bonnie Hunt, Jay Mohr, Regina King, and Kelly Preston. [More]

Reviews for Jerry Maguire
I'd love to see more movies like Jerry Maguire, movies that show us that making a life for oneself is not only is it possible but preferable.
Cameron Crowe's overstuffed but exuberantly humane Jerry Maguire is a Tom Cruise vehicle that gives equal time to brilliantly cast co-stars in elaborately conceived roles.
Jerry Maguire is a savvy depiction of a punched-up egomaniac being mauled by the tender hands of love.
Here is a remarkable exception to the proven principle that all movies with any scene taking place at a football game are stinkers.
There are a couple of moments in Jerry Maguire when you want to hug yourself with delight.
You could do far worse than the quest for a reasonable adult happiness.
There is an absolute poetry to the casting of Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire.
Zellweger's sweetly intense performance is a star-making one, while Gooding shines in his fast-talking charm.
Traces of Crowe's now-trademark style of filmmaking are evident here, making Maguire a sort of launching pad for what we hope are better things to come.
Overall Jerry Maguire is an enjoyable film, but far from a memorable one.
You may come away from Jerry Maguire feeling a little dizzy, but once the film settles into afterthought, it provides plenty to think about.
Jerry Maguire ranks among the precious few films that manage to invoke the full spectrum of human emotion while appearing neither contrived nor insincere.
