Jet Lag is funny and bright and deals with characters just damaged enough to make them comfortable.

Synopsis: Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno play strangers who meet in an airport (via cell phone) when their flights are canceled because of a strike in Daniele Thompson's romantic French comedy JET LAG.... Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno play strangers who meet in an airport (via cell phone) when their flights are canceled because of a strike in Daniele Thompson's romantic French comedy JET LAG. Binoche is Rose, a woman obsessed with makeup and style, who is seemingly shallow and selfish. Reno, taking a break from playing action heroes in American films (GODZILLA, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE), is Felix, a lonely former chef who is now a frozen-food king. Rose is seeking a new life in Mexico, far from her abusive former lover, Sergio (Sergi Lopez), while Felix is heading to Munich to recapture something he has lost. Both have dysfunctional relationships with their parents--Rose with her mother, Felix with his father. As they are stuck in Charles de Gaulle Airport and later in an airport hotel, truths come out that force them to face their uncertain futures. Elisabeth Tavernier's costume design for Rose is a riot; Binoche wears lots of makeup and very bright red and blue outfits. Reno, in contrast, plays his character with a quiet, sad solemnity. Interestingly, Thompson began her career writing screenplays with her father, actor-writer-director Gerard Oury, and she cowrote JET LAG with her son, Christopher. [More]

Reviews for Jet Lag
A talky French romantic comedy that fails to trade in on the innate charisma of its two leads, Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno.
So painful and misguided in its conception that purple hearts should be dispensed in the lobby for anyone who toughs it out for more than fifteen minutes.
Rose gives as good as she gets, and one of the film's exceedingly modest pleasures is watching how the director rescues this woman from stereotype and Félix's (and our) prejudice.
This movie doesn't exactly soar to never-before-reached heights, but it gets off the ground and sure beats sitting in the airport for two hours.
Jet Lag is sort of a grown-up version of Before Sunrise... The difference between the two films is sort of depressing.
It's a pleasure to encounter a confectionary love story in which a man and woman of age and experience discover feelings that youth, more and more, has a patent on in Hollywood.
Jet Lag is a time-waster that might be diversionary on a dull cross-Atlantic flight -- but only in the absence of alternatives.
There's little chemistry between the stars, Juliette Binoche and Jean Reno, and even less conviction in the roles they're assigned.
A standard comedy remains standard no matter how much eye shadow it's hidden under.
A peppy romantic trifle from France that rises above the mundane on the strength of its beautifully detailed lead performances.
Seen for what it is, the film is enjoyable, though nothing sticks in the mind when the lights come up.
All the usual meet-cute tropes are trotted out -- room service hassles, bed-sharing dilemmas -- but Reno and Binoche make a fine pair and the Parisian setting somehow makes it all seem fresher.
