Morris-Burke does deserve applause for what he has accomplished technically on a shoestring budget. His location scout is a hero. But the over-complicated, under-emotional Jim's reach ultimately exceeds its grasp.
A fatally unwieldy construct of naturalistic drama and cataclysmic sci-fi.
Unfortunately, each narrative strand is so packed with straight-out-of-writing-class dialogue that the film feels longer than its hour-and-46-minute running time.
Morris-Burke's ambitions outweigh his uneven execution -- some performers are better than others, the effects work is highly variable -- but there's undeniable talent in every frame.
Though one senses that the movie in Morris-Burkes head makes more sense than the movie onscreen, his technical virtuosity and thematic ambition mark him as a filmmaker of promise.
An imaginative, provocative and refreshingly unconventional, yet somewhat uneven amalgamation of sci-fi, drama, romance, tragedy and social commentary.
