More like a whole season of connected SNL skits than a real movie.

He's the wrong person, at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Joe Dirt (David Spade) is a janitor with a mullet hairdo, acid-washed jeans and a dream to find the parents that he lost at the Grand Canyon when he was a belligerent, trailer park-raised eight-year-old. Now, blasting Van Halen in his jacked-up economy car, the irrepressibly optimistic Joe hits the road alone in search of his folks. As his wandering, misguided search takes him from one hilarious misadventure to another, Joe finds his way to Los Angeles, where a shock-jock(Dennis Miller) brings Joe on his radio show to insult him. But as Joe's life story unfolds, jeers turn to cheers, and an entire captivated city tunes in to hear the adventures of Joe Dirt. -- © 2001 Columbia TriStar Interactive [More]

Reviews for Joe Dirt
Joe Dirt would desperately like to live down to that adage about being 'dumb as dirt.' But frankly, it's too stupid to even be that calculated.
You could save your money and watch this kind of mind-numbing, lowest-common-denominator dreck for free by flipping on the television and finding The Jerry Springer Show.
Is Joe Dirt a satisfying way to spend a mindless evening at the multiplex some hot Saturday? Yeah.
Spade handles this acting challenge by keeping his face expressionless at all times.
You Should Pay Nine Bucks for This If: You really liked Stuart Saves His Family. This is just as good as that one.
Joe Dirt plays like a stupid Saturday Night Live skit that refuses to die.
You start to wonder if choking to death on popcorn wouldn't be less painful than sitting through this.
Since the script was co-written by Mr. Spade (along with long-time SNL head writer Fred Wolf) he really has only himself to blame for being involved in such a mess.
Too obviously a tormentor himself, Spade can't pull off the sentimental formula that Adam Sandler frequently works.
Spade lets his wig do the acting. And apparently the writing as well.
While the big laughs aren't nearly as numerous as you might hope, chuckles sprout everywhere like weeds in the dirt.
A grubby Forrest Gump minus the computer-generated presidents and the charm.
