Jonny Quest Coming to a Theater Near You
Now where's that Herculoids movie?
Once Warner Bros. announced plans for a Speed Racer movie, animation fans knew it was only a matter of time before the studio started raiding the vaults for more adaptations of classic cartoons. Well, that time is now: Variety reports that Warners will be bringing Hanna-Barbera's mid-'60s icon Jonny Quest to the big screen.
For those unfamiliar with the show, which aired as part of ABC's prime time schedule in 1964, the setup is as follows: The Quest family (Jonny, his scientist dad Benton, Jonny's adopted brother Hadji, and a dog named Bandit) rocket around the globe with Jonny's tutor and bodyguard, Race Bannon, foiling the nefarious plots of the dastardly Doctor Zin. Despite lasting only a single season, Jonny Quest has resurfaced on several occasions, both via the occasional revival and repeats of the original episodes.
Helping bring Jonny to theaters will be producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter, who recently worked together on this fall's Hitman, and screenwriter Dan Mazeau. And if it seems strange that the guys behind Hitman would want to work on a Jonny Quest movie -- heck, if the very idea of a Jonny Quest movie seems strange -- consider the following excerpt from the article:
Askarieh, a longtime fan of the series, is hoping to turn the property into a family-friendly adventure franchise -- something the studio is clearly looking for now that "Harry Potter" is winding down.
In other words, folks, get ready for a lot of movies like this one. This is the part where the studio execs start throwing stuff at the walls to see what sticks.

xeronic writes: on Aug 08 2007 07:12 AM if they remake the flintstones starring vin diesel as barney, im going to cry. and sadly, lets just be glad its not "THE NEW ADVENTURES OF JOHNNY QUEST" as you can imagine all the CGI and crap it would have in Quest world. :( (Reply to this) |

DanielLee8793 writes: on Aug 08 2007 07:49 AM They already had Flintsones movies. What they should focus on is a Jetsons movie. They could make a really awsome one I think. Johnny Quest was not really interesting for me, the reruns were always on and I watched The New Adventures more than a few times. (Reply to this) |

Avi writes: on Aug 08 2007 08:23 AM A Jetsons movie? No way. Futurama is way more satirical and loads funnier than the Jetsons. It would only be a lame attempt to get the money of people who watched it when they were young, without providing originality - just nostalgia. There are plenty of modern sitcoms that could be made into movies - like The Office, or American Dad. (Reply to this) |

PrecentorEpsilonXVI writes: on Aug 08 2007 09:54 AM Hmmm... my bet is this will be sludge. I loved the original series when I was a kid (watched it in re-runs), but it just seems kinda silly when I think about it in live action and, more than likely, PG rated... All I can think about now, though, is the episode of Harvey Birdman where Bannon and Dr. Quest were fighting over custody of Johnny... lol (Reply to this) |

unbreakable_samurai writes: on Aug 08 2007 10:00 AM I enjoyed Quest when I was younger, so I would love a good movie. Buy yeah hopefully it's not like Alex Rider, but it probably will be, I won't get excited till this gets a really good cast or has a great trailer. And by the way they are making a Jetsons movie, directed by Robert Rodriguez. (Reply to this) |

buddablz writes: on Aug 08 2007 10:42 AM I liked the Jonny Quest episodes I had seen when I was younger. There were a few 60's episodes repeats I had seen and I watched that real adventures show when I was like 11 or 12. I think they show mix up both the 60s and the newer versions elements. No 3-D stuff. But mostly keep its 60s style and time era. I really doubt I'll go see this movie, but I hope they don't make it too family-friendly, I liked the show as a kid because it had suspense, violence and indiana jones-style global adventures. something that a 12 yr old would want to go see. TheIceGhost writes: on Aug 08 2007 11:49 PM Uh... they should just make a VENTURE BROS. movie (animated though, NOT live-action..). I mean, this flick could easily go the satirical direction.. and that's basically what VB is. I foresee another Scooby Doo... (Reply to this) |

The movie is really going to have to push the envelope to keep up with the original cartoon adventures. This should be interesting to see what the studios can do with this one! (Reply to this) |
